Yes, that's Femme!Bucky from the Heroes Reborn titles. She was transported to Earth 616 at the end of Onslaught Reborn (which I've been meaning to post for a while, but you know. LIEFELD and LOEB.)

If there's interest in me posting stuff from that series I will.

I don't think there would be much wrong with it if were the only cliche being hit upon (after all, males are inspired by preexisting heroes/villains as well), but when combined with the other troublesome aspects of her character it is a little more problematic.

Her costuming and manner is fairly sexual. The skin tight leotard that clings to every curve, the deep red lips (which may have different connotations in other cultures and be part of a greater character design, but they're certainly considered sexy to a Western audience), the entire 'this is just the kiss hello' thing...I think she's written in a 'black widow/vampy' sort of way.

I don't know, she just doesn't seem like a particularly well conceived character.

I believe that her white facepaint and the red lips are a nod to Japanese Geisha.

Which, considering some of the connotations that the practitioners have had for years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geisha#Geisha_and_prostitution), only makes the sexual overtones mentioned by yourself and others much more disturbing.

(Also, I am aware that proper Geisha are -not- prostitutes. However, they were mistakenly believed to be that for years, and even continue to be thought of that way by some people. Like myself, I didn't fully know what they really were until now.)

I don't believe she's conceived as a 'distaff'/wife of Bullseye.

She literally worships him as the god he thinks he is. Which I found kind of awesome.

I didn't mean that she was thought of as a "wife". I said that the white facepaint and blood red lips would make people think of geisha. Nothing more. :P

I thought that might be it, thanks for the link! I just didn't want to make any assumptions about the colour choice since I know the meaning of colours varies by culture.

When you mentioned the red lips, it kinda clicked, though I was thinking of Kabuki performers when that came to mind.

But some have -black- lips, not red. And then I remembered Memories of a Geisha...
