Courtesy of New York Daily News, here's an exclusive scene from the new Superman #1 in which Clack meets Lois' new boyfriend:

Annnnnd...I think I'll let the fail speak for itself here. Other than to say maybe those "Superman hooks up with Wonder Woman" rumors may essentially be rooted in a "brooding and loner" Clark (ugh!) getting back at the, once again, all-too clueless Lois for "rejecting" him when she decided to shack up with an all-too obvious douchebag...who, of course, she'll end up dumping in less than a year. Way to alienate your readers and Superman fans alike here, DC.

I'm not sure I'm interested, but strictly speaking for myself, I'm not outraged by this.

Date: 2011-07-21 06:50 pm (UTC)“Superman is one of the World’s Greatest Super Heroes, but he can’t have it all,” DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee told THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS. “Many of us know what it’s like to be the odd man out and we think readers will have a soft spot for Clark when they see his reaction to Lois’ new boyfriend.”
“In resetting Superman’s story and origin, it gave us a chance to revisit the challenges of that relationship in a contemporary setting,” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio.
That's fine, I can't argue with that. They both seem pretty accurate in fact.
The thing that stood out the most to me was Cat Grant (That was Cat Grant, right?) saying that Clark is full of it. Full of it are words that would never cross my mind when describing Clark Kent to anybody. Is Clark getting a personality transplant or is everybody at the Daily Planet just generally unpleasant now?

Date: 2011-07-21 06:50 pm (UTC)The worst things are:
1) The uncreative-ness of it all - Marvel did the same exact scenario with MJ/Spidey per MJ's first post-OMD appearance (the first time we see her is purring her "Tiger" pet name for Peter to some other dude while waiting for him on her couch) and DC did it with Jade/Kyle (IIRC he walks into their apartment after months in space to find some other dude there). Both of these things were done for the benefit of the MALE character so they could move on to someone new without fans of those pairings being mad (since it was all the female characters fault). Slut shaming is horrible and hypocritical but in any fandom it is very real (look at the Huntress in comics or Ginny Weasley among certain elements of HP fans just because she merely went out with other guys). Lois has been immune from that (one of the few female characters that is the case of) but that's gone. I dread to watch what language certain forums will use for DCnU Lois.
2)The way DC is pushing this particular plot point - releasing these particular pages to the world media ahead of the reboot, making it clear that Clark (a grown man with God-like powers who can have any women he wants) is pining for her while she can't wait to get to bed with blonde new guy who even new readers won't care about (lets face it any new readers DC gets will be expecting L&C at least in some way, not some bland shirtless blond guy). This is designed to make us feel sorry for poor lonely unloved Clark by throwing Lois under the bus because she doesn't see his feelings or whatever. Contrast with the John Byrne reboot where Clark dated Cat Grant and others with no problems and was NOT pining for Lois. They eventually started to look each others way at the same time and it went on from there. But Clark never pined for her and she was ALWAYS sensitive to his feelings (even when she felt betrayed like when he quit the Planet to go over to Newstime to begin with).
3) They are supposed to have been working together for years (especially since Dan Didio has explicitly said major storylines where Lois played a role like Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, Final Crisis, Death/Return of Superman, Batman:Hush are still in continuity) and yet Lois doesn't see him more than a co-worker still (who she is trying to hook up with other people)? I'm not buying. This is a return to the age of Silver Age Stupid Lois who never saw Clark and only saw Superman. In both of the Superman origins in the last decade (both of which were well received, sold well, written by A-list writers and supposed to be definitive) Lois perceived there was something more to Clark almost from the moment they met and she was interested in HIM (as well as Superman). Now that's gone too.
And I still haven't figured who the target audience for this is. Fratboys? Anti-social loners? The comic book nerd from the Simpsons? I mean, just one episode of Smallville (no matter how low-rated) had an audience that dwarfs that of the highest selling comic on the market. Didio/Johns/Lee could only dream of getting some of those people to read the comic with the TV show (highly dependent on L&C in the last seasons) gone but no...I don't get it.

Date: 2011-07-21 06:52 pm (UTC)but not when it's written as this lazy, amateurish sitcom bullcrap. it's like whoever wrote this went through a goddamn checklist. UNDERAPPRECIATED NICE GUY (TM) + THE GIRL + DOUCHY SEX GOD BOYFRIEND = DRAMA!
seriously, this engenders sympathy to clark how?
FFS i've read archie comics with more subtlety and nuance than this dogshit.

Now DC does the same thing, fully knowing how badly Marvel's version went down. That's just bizzarre.

From:how can they fail to understand the point of Superman this badly? it boggles the mind.
Date: 2011-07-21 07:26 pm (UTC)Well, that certainly would demonstrate the apparently requisite disregard for Diana's character when the World's
most overexposedFinest are involved. But really my main takeaway from this is Lois is either a meta with some kind of minor clothes-related ability, or much more interestingly, kind of kinky. There aren't many vanilla things you can do that involve the man being half-naked in bed (she does say get back) but leave the woman fully dressed save for her shoes.
Also Perry's grin in that second panel is terrifying.
