Taken from Marvel Premiere #51 all the way from 1979. BP deals with angry union workers, an old foe, talks to the president, and is told a story by a past lover of his own forgotten adventures where he is tortured by white supremacists. Written by Ed Hannigan, but the original Jungle Action Parts were by Don McGregor. Thi one is a dousy.
Contacts this issue of marvel premeire is billed as the return of Black Panther since his own series(black panther vol 1 by jack kirby) ended after 15 issues. This story takes the reins of a story that was left unfinshed due to the end of black panthers jungle action series which was an amazing comic that needs to be put in trade. Jungle Action ended and never finished this tale, so that kirby could begin his own series. The original Jungle Action was slightly contrversal.
Anyway tchalla returns to the American Wakandan embassy to find the wakandan objects to be improperly handled by the American Workers. I enjoy this part because it is not often you see a hero in full costume, but with no mask interacting with the world in broad daylight.

Tchalla does not hide behind his mask or use it to draw strength, because he does not need to. He got this status by studying martial arts and sciences and besting the current BP when in his teens. Everyone knows Wakandas king is the Black Panther and it is a bloodline, also he is not a man of mystery terror vigilante. He is the king of one of the world most advanced nations, he has to be approachable because shrouding himself in darkness is not something a public leader can do. Tchalla is more then a crimefighter he is a king, soldier, role model, scientist, and general global figure...the mask is just a ceremonial thing in it own right
Anyway tchallas men are not pulling their weapon against the Americans, but against a mysterious new foe windeagle. Tchalla narrowly avoids his first attack saying "You sound to confident for one who has just lost the advantage of surprise! And you may believe...

Oh boy never give panther time to strike back. One thing that they do not include much in his recent series is, Panther does not talk much during fights. He just analyzes every minor and large action for variable to manipulate. The hunter doesn't exchange banter with its prey, and that is how a good bp fight should be treated.

So Windeagle is captured, and tchalla goes to his embassy where he is greeted by two old forgotten friends from Jungle Action...Bath time...

Monica Lynne made her first appearance in the same issue of the avengers where tchalla joined the team. She was considered his love interest for a time. Jungle Action ended in 1976(abrutly not finishing the story this issue picks up on), and apparently Tchalla has been mindwiped of his time helping Monica in the last few issues of jungle action by a cult called the dragon circle.
Anyway he then gets a call from our good friend president Jimmy Carter.

This was realeased in Dec of 1979, maybe while on the phone carter could have asked for help with that minor hostage situation in Iran. This is alo during the period where Wakanda is opening up to the world. Tchalla as a man of science is always looking to push things to the next level, but as the leader of an African Nation(a highly advanced one I give you)he knows he can not abandon tradition.
Monica and trublood come in and they begin their tail, not mentioning that tchalla is their friend.

I love how he takes the time to address people who are basically strangers, to him with no real social influence. I know a lot of people complain that black panther is to perfect, but it is still cool that although he is ageniu he has never become unhinged from the common man. He also does not even put his mask on(his primary source of head protection) or gloves(arm protection), he trusts these "strangers" because of the good word his staff put in for them, which shows how much faith he ha in his people.

These events take place in Jungle Action Blood and sacrifices Arc, Which followed the amazing panthers Rage epic(that I want a trade of)

Powerful imagery the KKK in their all white robes againnst Panther in his all black. But while they wore their robes to express their rage without being known, tchalla inherited his to combat the likes of them.
Now tchalla starts to remember

A powerful image right there, and it shed light on why Jungle action was so controversial. This is not not the original art from Jungle Action but jut a quick retelling/drawing by Jerry Bingham. But you have to imagine in 1976(The cover of the issue of this part of the story showed tchalla being burned on the cross) the image of a known black hero being strung by klansmen and set on fire.

And the torture before his initial escape is why he does not remember this adventure, until now. Marvel canceled Jungle Action and left this story three years unfinished. Until a different writer picked it up and resolved it in #51-53 OF MARVEL PREMIERE. I do not have the resttt of this story arc, but this issue ends with windeagle being shot and tchalla setting out to find meaning this violence.
I decided to post this because it was a great issue really showcasing a marvel great, that a lot of comic fans are still not familiar with.
Seriously though marvel a Black Panther masterworks series, panthers rage is an ama
zing story that needs to be reintroduced.

Date: 2011-09-05 05:22 am (UTC)That's not 'regal awesomeness', that's just being spoilt. And before anyone says that it's the culture or expected of him, I don't really care; I find it hard to take anyone seriously when they have servants help them do simple things.

Date: 2011-09-05 03:41 pm (UTC)I mean the guy just got into a fight, they might even be nurses making sure he does not pass out into the bath. Not to mention this is not an ordinary bath, it looks like an old school one where you have to pour the water in(of course you need help with that). And about the phone thing, come on most bosses have secretary's/interns to pick up the phone and organize their calls. Is it spoiled when the ceo of a major corporation has someone redirect calls to his phone, because if he did not his phone would rang off the hook every second.
These pages alone have shown him to be anything but spoiled. He was willing to help move heavy furniture just to keep those American workers from being hurt. Also he addressed two last minute guests courtesy and manners.
I think you might have extravagant lifestyle confused with spoiled.
