As to how Cable's mission relates to the Avengers, Loeb said he "doesn't want to give away too much," but "how Cable survived Messiah Complex and Second Coming—and I do consider those one big arc—if there had been even a hint that the Avengers had something to do with Hope's future, he would... do something too them." Loeb was very cautious, but Brevoort was happy to be slightly more forthcoming with "X-Sanction" details.

Brevoort said the event will put Cable in conflict with characters readers aren't used to seeing him with. "The definition of Cable as a father out to protect his daughter by any means necessary gives the character a weight and heft you can relate to on a very human level." There are also "some larger situations going on" for both Nate and the Avengers.

I found the stories preceding the title change quite good too. Maybe he just has too much baggage with the X-crowd, so he works better with his own cast.

It's been a loooong while, but I think the stories I'm thinking happened when the title was called Soldier X. Cable was coming to terms with the fact that his powers had basically overcome the techno-virus, at least to such extent that he could operate pretty much on the same level as he would have been without the initial infection, and went on a walkabout around the world prior to setting up Providence and all the other stuff that would happen in Cable and Deadpool.

I need to go through my storage and reread that stuff again, seems like I've forgotten more than I thought.

Hmm, now that I googled it a bit I might have thought about some other time before that. At least the last arc seems a bit more, well, dystopian than my memory would suggest. Or then it's simply that my tastes have changed. Either or.

This, C&DP was the title that made me like Cable and portrayed him as someone other than GRRRR MERCENARY FROM THE FUTURE.

I want that Cable back.

I really liked that Cable! I really despair of ever reading any other story in which I can like him! It's disheartening.
