On the first day of class at his new school, Superboy is asked a question: If you're 300,000 light years from Mars, traveling at lightspeed, and want to reach New York city by breakfast, what time would you have to leave the red hallow (whatever that is)?



...which then segues into the page icon_uk posted, where Superboy completely ignores a woman crying for help, indicating that something's wrong with his ability to empathize.



I'm sure some people will complain that there's no such thing as a "cellular subconscious," but, well, there's no such thing as ESP or the metagene, either. The way I see it, this is just another made-up concept along those lines.



Elsewhere, there's a subplot about how one of the biophysicists working for N.O.W.H.E.R.E. (the organization behind all this), wants to turn whistleblower.

I think, more than Animal Man, this could be the surprise hit of the reboot for me. I wasn't expecting much from Lobdell, given his 90's output, but this is actually pretty promising.

Huh. This is really pulling a wide variety of toys out of the closet. Rose Wilson, Fairchild and Superboy is not a combination I was expecting, honestly.

This is much more interesting than I expected it to be. This could be one of the surprise hits of the reboot.

Yeah, it seems that they have absolutely no conception of how Kon here actually works. So when he ignores the fire they think he's psychotic, whereas he just knows it's not real.

As a Libertarian I am enjoying NuDC's view of Big Government, but there is no organization that would call itself 'N.O.W.H.E.R.E.'! They'd come up with something benign like S.O.M.E.W.H.E.R.E. I'll miss Conner, but I liked Superboy's inner monologue, and he IS much smarter than the lab rats are giving him credit for, so it looks to be an enjoyable series. (Also liked the intro of his mission at the end. Helps to have the same writer on both!)

SOMEWHERE is a lousy name for a secret organization.

NOWHERE is good - because if they didn't have moles like Umber, nobody would see them - they'd be nowhere, so far as anyone knew.

EVERYWHERE would also be good - they're a secret society with fingers in countless pies - if you are in a situation to see them, they're everywhere.

SOMEWHERE... 'Where are they?' '*shrug* Somewhere.'

...Oh man, I never made that connection until now! Cracking series, from what little I've played of it, but that concept was always too over the top for me, even for someone who probably obsessively loves the pseudoscience of cape comics.
