Yeah--questionable costume changes aside, I think it's fair to say that this book so far has gotten Harley's personality pretty much right. :D

I believe the artist, Moriat, has said that while there may not be direct ties, but stuff you see in the Gotham's past elements in Gates and Batman will appear in the background of this story.

That bit of cynisism out of the way, Stormwatch has been looking unexpectedly good and the solicits have been promising things so incredibly COMICS that I can't help but be excited.
Arkham and Hex teaming up to fight Morloc children? Okay, where do I leave my money?

Well, be fair- shit comes out of the sky and the ground at once, the after-effects probably ain't going away for at least a month.

Plus the way they're going with the new 52, it's almost certain some book or another that month's going to do " Well, at least this isn't as bad as what happened over there.. " with a nice little " Pick up Stormwatch this month to find out just what that means (if you haven't already!) " sidebar.

The Batman cover is one of the most beautiful since the reboot started, imo.

the I, Vampire cover is GORGEOUS. And alien antibodies aside, I can't stop grinning at the Stormwatch one. There's something awesome about it.

I want to hate the squad.... BUT the solicits keep looking decent. Plus Boomerang is joining so there's a plus. If we can get deadshot serving double duty on the squad and the six that'd be wonderful.

I rather like the squad cover, really nice, and I Vampire looks pretty legit.

I think there are words that no DC solicit can be allowed to use for at least 3 years.

"Changes things forever" "Change in lineup" (Note: Not to say changes can't happen, but stop using them as selling points ... 4 issues in), "More adjective than anything they ever fought before." (Unless said adjective is 'sexy' and it's because Dinah is appearing in Batgirl. Or Catman in Suicide Squad)

More to be thought up probably when the 5th issue solicits come out. "Someone Dies Forever!"

Dude, if DC has to stop using them, it goes quadruple for Marvel, who give every event every fucking six months or so the same "NOTHING WILL BE THE SAME AGAIN!!__1!1!!1!_!1" or promote a story with a 'secret' history being revealed.

Between the vultures in Detective Comics and the owls in this and The Golden Gates of Gotham, I'm just wondering why the hell Snyder doesn't just go ahead and make the Penguin his arch-villain already. God knows Ozzie could use the prestige. Then again, Snyder opted to create a pointless new villain with Tiger Shark rather than just use the Great White Shark, so I guess that he, like Morrison, is all about the new villains. Meh.

Isn't creating new characters a good thing? Also, he has a pretty good explanation as to why he deliberately did not want Dick to fight Bruce's villains:

"What I wanted to do was show how Gotham challenges its heroes. And the way it challenges its heroes, in my opinion, is by generating enemies and antagonists and challenges that are really extensions of the character’s greatest strength, but in ways that make that strength look like a weakness.

So for Bruce, the Joker is sort of who Bruce would be if he broke his rules and lived in the cave forever. And Two-Face is kind of an extension of the duality of his life. So you see a twisted funhouse version of yourself in these villains, and that’s what makes them scary and that’s what makes them potent. What we wanted to do with Dick Grayson was something similar, which was, instead of him going out and facing Bruce’s villains, it was almost like Gotham was creating new villains for him that really were reflections of his strengths and weaknesses. He’s a character that is very compassionate and empathetic. He's outgoing and social; he doesn’t have the same baggage as Bruce. So we wanted to create a world in Gotham that, little by little, was showing him how ugly people can be, why you shouldn’t be empathetic, why you shouldn’t be compassionate, and to try and break him down."

That applies to a lot of the NuDC books. By issue #4 Nightwing's already fighting an evil duplicate, Batgirl's already at a final confrontation with someone she hasn't even met in the first issue, Stormwatch is already getting a major roster change. It's like they're cycling through all the Silver Age tropes at high speed.
