The Controversy over Duck Tales #3
Sep. 26th, 2011 06:46 pmNo you read that correctly, there is controversy over a Duck Tales comic.
Why you ask? Well because its being hailed by critics as probably the worst Disney comic to have ever been made. My opinion is that it is probably a contender for the worst comic of the year.
This does not spell good things for the Disney/Marvel buyout and Kaboom! studios.
Anywho some art analysis from the issue in question after the cut
I won't really get into the story, it's ripe with continuity errors and the like but hey it's a comic for kids. That being said, the story is almost INSULTING to kids.
Chris Barat has a nice overview of the story for those interested http://newsandviewsbychrisbarat.blogspot.com/2011/08/comics-review-ducktales-3-july-2011.html
Let's immediately dig in and look at the best examples of the poor artwork from this issue

Ooooookkk analysis:
1. Characters positions are all over the place. First Farquardt is directly facing the Beagle boy and then he's coming at him from the side. Scrooge just teleports in at the 3rd panel.
2. The Beagle Boy seems to be trying to crush Farquardts head with his mind powers in the 2nd panel.
3. Unnecessary and inaccurate pointing, scale is completely wrong, warped continuity (the nameplate is missing in the 2nd panel), and just downright lazy backgrounds.
Bad as that was, it gets worse
Time for a fun game ladies and gentlemen! Scroll down and see if you can spot all the instances of copy/paste in the following panels! The answers will be below the scan (Hint: there are at least 3 instances)

1. The 4 children are just reversed in the first and 3rd panel.
2. Gladstone is copy/pasted from the 2nd to the 3rd.
3. The 4th and 5th are just shameless.
Alright Droidy, the people are asking: why should we care?
Well because it's not always been like this. Take a gander (no pun intended) through the tags for some of the Darkwing Duck and other Ducktales that Icon_UK and others have posted. You'll find that they're good...really good! The company as a whole seems to have taken a nose dive as of late, producing work of this quality.
And it saddens me.

Date: 2011-09-27 05:32 am (UTC)I have a quick question: is Boom! going to stop printing Disney comics from now on entirely, or is it just the DuckTales series? Because I bought the two Donald Duck Treasuries from Boom! and they're excellent, and it'll be depressing if they stop printing them.

Date: 2011-09-29 01:18 am (UTC)It's not helping that I just found out that Darkwing Duck is canceled as of issue 18. Everything seemed to be going so well with Kaboom; hopefully the DWD quality at least lasts until the end...
