"And that's a major-league dick line from Pietro on that first page."
Oh wow, I hadn't even noticed what that line implied when I read the issue. Although it doesn't really surprise me that Pietro would say something like that.
I've gotta say, this is probably one of my favorite Marvel books coming out right now. The characters are all great and the writing has made me love characters that I thought I would never like, like Hazmat. As for the art in this issue, I am constantly amazed out how emotive they can make Mettle just by using his eyes. Great work on the artist's part. I also love all the little touches they put in like Hazmat being upset about her Dazzler poster and Neils showing up. And you have to admit that Veil actually has a pretty good point.
I've noticed most of the time when Pietro shows up he's either being a snarky jackass or being strangely obsessive over his sister in some way. Sometimes both at the same time.
No one said it'd be glamerous. No one said it'd be fun. If you can't do it, you really should quit. Because it's hard, it's soul destroying. It'll kill you, one way or another.
But at the end of the day, they do it because no one else can, and it has to be done or people will die.
I do! "We killed people... we had to choose which of us would commit suicide." You were fighting the daughter of the ultimate Nazi, genius! What did you think it would come down to, a Care Bear Stare?
With that said, I still can't really blame her for wanting out while she can. Not everyone can handle that kind of stress, and I can certainly sympathize with her reaction even if I don't fully agree with it. (If that makes any sense).
Hey, speaking of Care Bear Stares, what ever happened to the Happy Gun?
Yeah, but that's a bit much. I almost expect him to go up to Speedball and say, regarding the events of Fear Itself "Oh hey, where were you during all that? Right, you were being suffocated with a bag over your head!", since it seems almost troll-like.
Almost nothing to do with this scan..but.. I wish they'd kept the Might Avengers on-going book around, with Wasp!Pym, Quick Silver, Hercules, etc.. It was such a fun team!
Does kinda sound like she had overly romantic ideas about superheroics in the modern age (then again, as others have said, could be a meta-decrying of the "unwholesomeness" of modern comics).
But yeah, she makes the right decision to leave. This is the job for pro heroes. Crises get ugly, people get hurt in more ways than one. You do it because you have the power and the skill.
I don't know, it's the X-kids problem all over again isn't it? Should children - even super-powered children - be drafted as soldiers? If you are teaching at a school should you take the Cyke route - 'It is their fight too. We meet this together' - or the Wolverine route of - 'They are kids, they shouldn't a fight'.
It is even more delicate with Avengers Academy, I think, because they deliberately selected kids they thought were psychologically and morally vulnerable. (Right? Not one of the books I am following)
Seriously! After all the crap these kids have gone through, and how they get treated, I was waiting for somebody to just get fed up. I sure as hell wouldn't want to deal with anything else like that. Here's to hoping it lasts.
I agree, and I think she's right. The X-Kids were the last of a dying race. They were constantly under attack and their friends were being killed, so you can at least see the path to how they started becoming soldiers. Not only are these kids not mutants (or it hasn't been said yet), but they aren't even the only superpowered kids out there. These are teens with serious psychological issues who signed up to learn how to control their powers, and the whole point of the program was to keep them from ever doing anything like this. So sure, lets throw these psychologically damaged kids who we are trying to teach not to kill into a a war and have them kill people for good.
This is the worst school ever. Worse than Xavier's Institute.
They are mentally damaged teenagers, who the teachers are trying to keep from killing to begin with. They put them in a livefire situation and had them kill anyways. Was it necessary? Arguably. But again with Tigra and her awful word choice. You don't want to come off of that like "Hey, nice job! You acted like Avengers, killing all the bad guys! Here's to a job well done!"
