"And that's a major-league dick line from Pietro on that first page."
Oh wow, I hadn't even noticed what that line implied when I read the issue. Although it doesn't really surprise me that Pietro would say something like that.
Seriously! After all the crap these kids have gone through, and how they get treated, I was waiting for somebody to just get fed up. I sure as hell wouldn't want to deal with anything else like that. Here's to hoping it lasts.
I've gotta say, this is probably one of my favorite Marvel books coming out right now. The characters are all great and the writing has made me love characters that I thought I would never like, like Hazmat. As for the art in this issue, I am constantly amazed out how emotive they can make Mettle just by using his eyes. Great work on the artist's part. I also love all the little touches they put in like Hazmat being upset about her Dazzler poster and Neils showing up. And you have to admit that Veil actually has a pretty good point.
I do! "We killed people... we had to choose which of us would commit suicide." You were fighting the daughter of the ultimate Nazi, genius! What did you think it would come down to, a Care Bear Stare?
No one said it'd be glamerous. No one said it'd be fun. If you can't do it, you really should quit. Because it's hard, it's soul destroying. It'll kill you, one way or another.
But at the end of the day, they do it because no one else can, and it has to be done or people will die.
Does kinda sound like she had overly romantic ideas about superheroics in the modern age (then again, as others have said, could be a meta-decrying of the "unwholesomeness" of modern comics).
But yeah, she makes the right decision to leave. This is the job for pro heroes. Crises get ugly, people get hurt in more ways than one. You do it because you have the power and the skill.
Almost nothing to do with this scan..but.. I wish they'd kept the Might Avengers on-going book around, with Wasp!Pym, Quick Silver, Hercules, etc.. It was such a fun team!
i agree... the only problem i see with what has happend is that the kids should have gotten IMMEDIATE treatment for this trauma the moment it was possible to. EVEN if at the very least it was just Tigra coming over and telling them and talking ot them for a few moments a piece to at least show them that they are not taking thier traumas lightly
A little off topic, but... can't get over how much this looks like George Perez. Who's the artist? And do you think Marvel are doing a deliberate Teen Titans look? (They were originally the junior JLA, right?)
Mike McKone, who actually drew the relaunch of the Teen Titans by Geoff Johns (like, way back). I can see some of the George Perez in the facial expressions, now that you mention it.
... what is this bullshit speech, i can't. does she have bad short term memory and forgot why they ended up in that situation?
i wish comics would quit it with the teenagers delivering grand moral lessons thing, tbqhwy. they suck at it. if you have to, at least make it humorous. let them quote sassy gay friend or smth - look at your life, look at your choices!
actually i have to emphatically disagree with you.
imho Veil has a very valid point. they were not ready for this, yes shit happens, and they have to deal with it... but the adults have to realize... these are KIDS, (not X-Kids who are perpetually hunted) they have been through crap. and all they have done is give them a pat on shoulder and sent them off... at the very least they should have said, "Ok i know you have been through crap, shit is still going down, but we will deal with this, we are not ignoring the shit y ou have been t hrough"
To borrow a common joke about law school, Veil is realziing that being an Avenger is like entering a pie-eating contest where the prize is more pie. Oh, and the pie is trying to kill you *and* innocent civlians.
She should run off to have a buddy-movie road comedy with Cloud-9. They can travel America righting wrongs and complain to each other about how much the Avengers suck.

Props on the creative team for at least not killing one of the students to bring in more.
