Actually you've got that phrase wrong.

It's not the only returning female character. it's the only returning character other than Bobby.

Every recurring character on supernatural dies eventually. Male or female.

Sam and Dean are white males. Castiel/Jimmy is a white male. Bobby, as you mentioned, is (a white) male.

Compare/contrast with Jo/Ellen/Bela/Henderson/Ruby.

Pastor Jim and Caleb don't qualify as recurring, I think (didn't they only appear in the one ep each, as cameos, you're-there-and-then-you're-killed?) Samuel may have been killed, but he was dead to start with, and he was the one getting recurrected, not Deana.

Look, I never said being a character on SPN assures you won't be killed. I'm only pointing out that when you're a woman or a PoC and you appear in more than one ep, you are going to die.

Sheriff Mills is still alive, so's Meg.

Not saying they might not die eventually, but in the long run, all supporting characters on spn die. Even Castiel did (for now)

And I'm still on a dead watch for Bobby. (they only reason they haven't killed him yet, is because it'd be a repeat of John, who was also killed off.

I guess I just feel that people keep accusing spn of lots of things, while the reality is that the show has two main characters, with Bobby a close third, but even he could be killed off at any moment.

The thing with spn is that they give strong recurring roles to women and people of colour. But since this is spn, most recurring characters will eventually die, including said women and poc.

On another show, Gordon might have been white, Ellen might have been replaced by Bill. but the show didn't do that. They gave us strong characters and then let them have the storylines that came from the characters or the plotlines they were going with.

I personally much rather have a Victor Henriksen, Gordon Walker, Isaac and Tamara, Ellen and Jo, Ruby and Bella, Meg, Amy, sheriff Jody Mills, Rufus... and have them die eventually. Than to just have a token black or female character who doesn't really add anything to the show or plotline.

We're going to have to disagree about that, because I feel SPN does consistently badly on the "representation of women/PoC" corner.

Or they could've had Bobby be a woman. Or have John die instead of Mary. Or cast Castiel, rather than Uriel, as a PoC.

I love SPN's characters, but I think they get screwed over by plotlines in a major way. What did Henriksen's death add to the story? Or Ellen and Jo's?

The reality of the show is that all their main heroic characters are white males.
