Yay! The New Gods are showing up! And also one of the characters from the comic too possibly!

For legality, a Halloween edition of Shortpacked, which depresses me with subtext,

For those who don't know, Leslie and Robin have broken up. Girl at the top is Leslie's new girlfriend, who is a horrible person.

I wonder if Harm means we might see Secret in one form or another!

I don't get the joke of panels three or four of the Shortpacked, what unfunny convention-goer? and what do boobs have to do with it since I presume the Deadpool is a guy? And "My costume is Father" means nothing to me.

I'm not even going to ask about the guy with cheese on his head.

Clearly my geek fu is failing.

EVERY unfunny con-goer who dresses as Deadpool. (Or other character who should be full of hilarity.) Could also be 'every Deadpool Lookalike On Champions Online' if Jacob (who is probably in the Deadpool costume) was a gamer, not just a comics and toy nerd (and sex addict, but that's tangential to this). I've run into several, myself, and probably passed more when I wasn't paying attention to the area they were in. Buggers are everywhere.

For Les's comment, don't read it as 'Shut up, person who I am calling Boobs (for no good reason, since you don't have them)', read it as 'Shut up, as I am no longer listening to you, since there are boobs'.

The best Deadpool cosplayer I've ever seen was this guy at Fan Expo who was dressed as Deadpool with Mickey Mouse ears and gloves. "I KILL FOR THE MOUSE NOW! HO HO!" He was genuinely funny XD

Oh, and the second panel? Amber (the girl mistaking Clock King for the Doctor) is dressed as her own superheroic alter ego, Amazi-Girl. (... Which may actually not be a halloween costume, so much as a cry for help. Amber's last appearance was also in costume, because she needed Amazi-Girl's superpower, immunity to criticism.)

That episode is written by he-whom-Scans-Daily-cannot-name. So that's almost likely we will.

Man, I wish somebody would cosplay as Temple. Well heck, I'm getting the hairline and I already have experience with a bowler derby. Looks like it's up to me! I suppose it was only a matter of time. /jumps onto passing train

Seriously, why does no one else love the Clock King from TAS?

I'm not saying he's DISliked, but he's just kind of forgotten or ignored. He never shows up in fanart or fic, and the closest equivalent we have is the one in Terror Titans, who is hardly the same at all.

I loved him in his first appearance, but I thought his second appearance spoiled him by giving him the time manipulator, a man who is so obsessed with time would view something which disrupted the natural flow of time as being an abomination which should be destroyed, not played with.

Oh, and I loved him when he showed up in JLU as a member of Task Force X.

I was disappointed that the Clock King we saw in the recent issue of Batman was the former member of "Justice League Antarctica" one.

Yeah, his second appearance does rather miss the point of what made him great. My Henchgirl--a rather big wheel in the Batman fanfic world--actually wrote a fantastic Clock King fic which has barely gotten any attention, because no one cares about Temple. Sigh. She really captured what I loved about the character without making him unduly sympathetic, and I so wish we could see that version of the character in comics.

Yeah, the Task Force episode was excellent, and an inspired use of his abilities. I also enjoyed Ty Templeton bringing him back (with a beard?) for the end of Batman Adventures.

Y'know, classic Clock King from JLAntarctica... I recently picked up a copy of Wizard's Dark Book '98, which featured him as one of the Top Ten Worst Villains. But when I read his origin, I was surprised by how GREAT it was! He's a total Breaking Bad style supervillain, a guy who's (wrongly) diagnosed with a terminal illness, and so he goes on a crime spree to get money for his sick sister in the hospital. Ultimately, he's arrested by Green Arrow and sent to prison, where he learns that the doctor had screwed up, and he's now forced to survive and do nothing while his sister dies. Holy shit. Thus you have a villain who has a perfectly understandable grudge against both the doctor AND the superhero.

That is a fantastic fucking origin, man. Why has no one ever USED that?

Geez!

When Batman discovered that the Getaway Genius had been stealing cancer-treatment drugs, he set up medical coverage for him, so he'd die in peace and be able to spend his last months with his daughter, rather than languishing in prison.

When Green Arrow discovers a man who thought he was dying had stolen to provide for his also terminally ill sister, he just bangs him up in jail.

And people wonder why I never liked Green Arrow.

I'm am also a Fan of Temple Fugit Clock King (I had to google the name, but I felt like an idiot after I looked at the art again and noticed the glasses with clock hands).

Unfortunately, I think he suffers from being a "cerebral" villain without too much of an imposing character (his abilities are unnerving at best), in stories where dynamic action usually end with the hero beating up the villain. Temple is a character best used sparingly, and it's easy to see why various writers "pass" on using him.

Honestly, I like Clock King more than a huge number of the other Bat villains, and seeing him used in the wider villain community on JLU was a real treat.

I think the time manipulation devices were maybe a little gimmicky, but at the same time, Temple does like displaying his mastery of time as well as having an obsession with it - There's that great bit in The Clock King where he basically escapes Batman thanks to knowing precisely what time a train will be passing by.

So on the one hand, very gimmicky, but on the other, I think it's the kind of gadget he'd relish using, to some degree.

Hey, I always thought that the Clock King from BTAS was the best version of that character there ever was. Way better than the guy with a bunch of clock-faces attached to him (mercilessly lampooned in Empowered) or the new meta-guy heading up the Terror Titans.

I always liked how... Kinda mundane Fugate was. That thing with the time-slowing devices aside, his sole aim in screwing up all the traffic in Gotham was to unveil that poster of Mayor Hill.

Well, except for the whole DERAIL A SUBWAY TRAIN AND ALMOST CERTAINLY KILL SEVERAL PEOPLE thing, all to discredit Hill. I remember rewatching the episode recently and thinking, "Holy shit, there's no way everyone walked away from that one."

Temple was more awesome before the time-belt, when he could screw up a whole city armed solely with the power of anal-retentiveness.

It's been years since I've seen the episode, so I concede there. I just really remember the bit with the poster dropping down before the gridlocked traffic, and remember thinking 'this guy can screw the traffic up that badly and all he does is that?'...

Still, I'd definitely say he's more mundane than a lot of Batfoes. It doesn't mean he's not interesting, to me, he's just more grounded.

Harm, the Sphere transforming (possibly into the Super-Cycle), and the Forever People! This show just keeps getting more awesome.

And now I've already got a crack pairing between the Sphere/Super-Cycle and Megan's Bio-ship. Yikes.

Also, awesome icon! The Dresden Files is one of my favorite series. I can't wait for the next book after Ghost Story. At least I have the Codex Alera series to tide me over.

I'm not entirely sure that Leslie likes Malaya either, she likes the way Malaya looks, but Leslie is smart enough to realize that Malaya is even worse for her than Robin was.

Now as for Mike's costume, I originally misread it as "My father", and that is actually kinda scary, not as scary as being Amber's dad, but it's plenty scary. Yes his father seems like a nice guy, but he still creeps me out.

Fatherhood is only somewhat scary, especially when your life is as stable as Mike's life. The only time it really becomes a problem is when he does something to piss Robin off, because unlike the others, she will beat his ass for being a jerk.

That's precisely why I don't think they are girlfriends, Malaya is a complete bitch to everyone, while Leslie can be distracted by the sexy, she's realized that it's an actual problem in her life, and I don't think she will repeat her mistakes. Leslie is a pretty smart woman.

I think once Robin grows up some (hard to believe that she will, but this is an excellent opportunity for Robin to grow as a character) she and Leslie can have a healthy relationship.

This is one of the few occasions where Robin can't solve it with her speed, strength, or fighting ability, she will actually have to use her brain, and become an adult to handle Malaya properly. I'm just not entirely sure Willis will let her grow, he's kind of bad about that sometimes. Robin's had a few opportunities to grow already and hasn't really taken advantage of them.

I wouldn't say it if she wasn't unnecessarily mean to everyone around her, if she actually treated people better, then I wouldn't call her that. I'm pretty sure it's not misogyny when I'm selecting one person out of a cast that features a large number of females. Especially when we are talking about her relationship with another female, and the surrounding cast.

Furthermore, I resent the implication of misogyny when I'm clearly respectful, even appreciative, of the two other females this conversation is centered on, despite the fact that one of them has yet to grow up psychologically speaking.

I like Robin. I like Leslie. I don't like Malaya. Amber is okay, she's calmed down a lot, which was my issue with her, because she to treated the people around her poorly.

Bitch is a misogynistic term, and it's not welcome here in any context. It doesn't matter why you used it, or how you refer to other women; that doesn't lessen the word's history or impact.

Whether or not the insult is warranted, certain terms are specifically inappropriate in this community, and this setting. Surely it's not too difficult to refrain from using gendered insults here, right? Nobody likes getting called on the carpet by a mod, but it doesn't have to be a big thing.
