Since we're dealing with Golden Age Starman, I take it this is Mama Canary? I wonder if her daughter was already born by this time to know of her mum's nightly outings. :}
Dinah (BC2) would eventually find out about her moms infidelity with Ted Knight. In JLA: Year One it was her reasoning for not starting a relationship with Barry Allen (who was engaged to Iris but was starting to have feelings for Dinah and vice versa).
I can't imagine Saint Barry Allen having an affair. He's said that Iris is his lightning rod so many times I've lost count. Somehow I just can't imagine that he would actually act on his feelings for Dinah. I know it's not realistic to have heroes that never cheat on their spouses, but Barry Allen's the guy ran himself to death to save the world. Somehow him cheatin just doesn't sit right with me - it reminds me of the time that Superman killed the alternate universe Zod, Ursa and Non.
Well this was early in his career and (presumably) somewhat earlier in his relationship with Iris. Plus prior to the JLA, I don't think Barry had ever worked with a female superhero before so there's that whole "compatibility on a deeper level thing" too...
Plus Barry was a big JSA fanboy at the time, even admitting he took his hero-ing name and costume as a tribute to Jay Garrick. He was over the moon when he found out Dinah Jr. was the daughter of the original BC.
Did either of their spouses find out? And if so..why did they stay? What was the fallout? Seriosuly they just pretty much admitted to having no remorse and for me, that's one of the unforgivable "sins" when it comes to an affair because it shows how little someone actually loves the one who possesses their ring's twin.
I'm not sure I understand what's going on here (and anyone's free to correct me on this one) but this looks like it was a 'heat of the moment' type fling after fighting so many villains. Nevertheless I do agree with you on the cheating thing.
By the way, where is your icon of Roy Harper from?
It was. Dinah (1) and Ted Knight had a one night stand. Afterwards, they realized nothing more could come from this and went back to their spouses. It was a secret buried between the two of them for a while. Still not sure how Wesley Dodds ended up knowing, but hey...it might be brag-worthy down the line.
I share your feelings. One of the reasons I had problems with this. Most depictions I've seen of Dinah I (and Dinah II's memories of her) had the original Black Canary really in love with her husband and even burned up with guilt that radiation (from her - (and the same radiation that eventually gave her cancer as well) - was what killed him.
I have a hard time believing that neither married spouses felt neither guilty about this but seemingly Dinah was willing to continue on with it (if the fact that Starman was the one that had to tell her they should forget about it is any clue).
And while I've never engaged in adulterous affairs - if you have one with someone you work with constantly and for DECADES who knows your (faithful) spouse and vice versa can you really "pretend it didn't happen" and "not be sorry" (even just a bit). If so, that's a bit cold to Larry Lance (the father of her daughter) and Ted's wife (the mother of his sons) - all of whom knew each other. I guess it happens in real life - but these ARE supposed to be "heroes" and there's never been a hint that Dinah I engaged in anything with any other of her daughter's JSA "uncles" all of whom also were extremely good looking and whom she was in constant close contact.
This just seemed like Robinson trying to insert/create new history where it wasn't needed. Funny enough the last time there was a new Golden Age (in-continuity) Black Canary story it was a special Birds of Prey issue #66 (the one that was supposed to have the cover by Alex Toth but didn't) where Larry Lance appeared and it BC and was clearly a love match (which I'm why I'm dubious she would cheat on him so easily and casually).
I've read a lot of the original Canary stories and Larry was depicted as a somewhat inept private eye, whose win column was mostly due to Dinah's assists. Wonder if keeping the secret wasn't subconscious payback on her part. Doubly so if Dinah Jr was his. Moot point in the New U though, right? Black Canary's no longer legacy on Earth 1 if they're trying to establish public superheroing as having begun with Supes, with a previous urban legend attributed to Bats.
Thanks for Moar Starman! I was just getting ready to load up and post the "13 Years Ago: Five Friends" story. Just so everybody can share in the sheer determination and balls-dropping badassery of Hourman holding the bridge.
this made me think...with no more JSA around, will Dinah lose her Black Canary-mom as well? Will there still be a Doc Mid-nite & co around the regular DCnU Earth? We have the modern Mister Terrific but no more ties to the past..or... *head starts to hurt*
Apparently the JSA were sent off to Earth 2 at the moment, though I have a feeling that with next year's Grant Morrison Event (Multiplicity or something I think that it's called) it might end up with some of the older details being merged back into the DCU again.

I'm a Roy Harper fan and just thought the pic was adorably funny.
