Over on Paradise Island, Hera does indeed appear, resplendent in cape of peacock feathers. Knowing she has no chance against a goddess, the warrior queen bows down and asks for forgiveness. And Hera seems set to look with compassion on the weaker woman, so vulnerable to her husband's charms.

Diana finds Hippolyte, but she's in no fit state to accept an apology thanks to the departed Hera. She's been petrified, and her Amazon sisters are in equally dire straits, having been transformed into snakes.

The 'Diana protecting someone with a couple minor gods hanging out' is cool, but the book isn't respecting WW's history much.

Hmm...I can't really argue that, but I feel like they're giving HUGE respect to Diana's character and the world that she inhabits, so I do think it balances out pretty damn favorably on this book's end.

I think if they were going to do it, this rebooot was the time. End of the day we have a good story that respects her character and the way she acts, has her doing cool things which many runs on her title can't claim. I am buying this run because I think the tone has set it apart from other titles.

She is a God. Also responsible for the deaths of a number of Amazons and currently insinuating she get rid of the unborn child of a mortal woman under Diana's protection. Diana showed incredible restraint before this, actually.

Even though it's Hermes, I'm now curious what the interaction between Mr Freeze and Diana would be like. Because I can't think of a single time that they've met.

I mean, I know that she's met Clayface (in the story where he steals some of her bodymass to get her powers, which deages her to Donna Troy's physical age), Ra's al Ghul (in the Trinity graphic novel, where he first tries to use Bizarro to take over the world and then tries to conquer Paradise Island on the basis that Ra's thinks that the Amazons would make good breeding stock) and the Joker (way back in a story draw by Brian Bolland, just post-Killing Joke when Diana's costume consisted of a leather jacket and black hotpants).

Depending on the version, the interaction'd be very different though. The DCAU version or the Maurice LaMarche one from Arkham City would be cool, no pun intended, as Diana would probably sympathise with him more than Bruce does. Possibly even offering to cure Nora with the purple healing ray or something.

I would totally pay DC like, a thousand dollars to can this shit and just let Rucka write her again.

Of course that was compelling storytelling that respected Wonder Woman's history and character while developing her mythos in new directions so... yeah, literally no chance of that ever being allowed to happen.

To be honest I think Diana's new origin fits her being WONDER WOMAN this super strong powerhouse. Why not make her a demi-god?

Why not? Because she already had a totally unique origin that set her apart from all the other superheroes.

This origin was stolen from her one-time sidekick.

The best thing about this issue was Hermes with one of his bird-legs in a splint.

The second best thing was Zola and Diana's conversation about the meaning of home.

And I like Diana's new origin story. I don't think it's better than the one that came before, but I don't think it's worse, either. I find it a very relatable thing, that dissonance between the idealised story of your birth that you hear as a child ("Mama wanted a baby *so* much..."), and the later realization that, actually, your parents are people just like you, and maybe not perfect. and did anyone else appreciate how, when Hippolyta talked about sex and the giving up of control, she was quite clearly talking about the pleasure of Zeus "giving it up" to her, not the other way around?

I also enjoy the prospect that for once DC is not going to go the route of genetics=destiny.

Well, keep the praises up. I'm very certain that DC is just dying to kill off that origin story for good in favor of this. It's already got the sales and fantastic reviews. Keep feeding the fire mates.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here, they already have killed off the previous origin, the reboot happened.

(And just to clarify, I'm not a fan of this new origin, or this new Diana particularly)

Hypothesis:
People who didn't care for Wonder Woman, now love this comic.
People who loved Wonder Woman before this (Perez, Rucka, Simone, etc.), don't like this comic.

Conclusion:
This run changes Wonder Woman in such a way to make her appeal to more people, but removes the aspects that the fans she already had found so appealing

I LOVED Rucka. His is still my definitive Diana. The Medusa/blinding facedown arc is perhaps one of if not the best definitive Diana story or what WW is than anything else I can think of. If anything right now the lack of Athena in WW is my only quibble.

Simone had ok moments but Genocide was a complete joke. Visually. Just awful.

Don't generalize fandoms. I loved Rucka's WW but I enjoy the new series for the pop-horror feel, it's a new approach to WW, who if you've noticed has always had a bit of trouble with writing in the long run, I mean she's been rebooted/retooled so many times already. Pygmalion style birth - great. But then they complicated it with previous lives/cavewoman and murdered while pregnant. Diana Trevor. etc etc.


People forget she started as a bizarre comic centered around the bondage fetish and morals of the writer/originator, she's come a long way from that.

Rucka's heroines are the best. If I was in charge at DC I'd give him a huge sandbox of whatever heroes he wanted and let him tell stories.

Every time I try to give this comic a chance, I find myself feeling vaguely uneasy and icky. I am not entirely positive why.

...That is seriously the only feeling I have on this comic, really. The second I start to kinda be interested in a part of it, I run into an undefinable feeling that makes me slightly queasy.

Oh well. Where are those scans of Wondy vs. Medusa... that always cheers me up.

I feel the same way. I love Wonder Woman and I feel like I ought to give the reboot a chance. But then I'll run across some scans like these and it just leaves me feeling uneasy and... bleh.

Not to mention the new origins story just annoys the hell out of me.

Oh well, there's always When Wondy Was Awesome.
