FABLES 113 puts the spotlight on a few of the background characters who've appeared here and there throughout the series.

Back in issue 96, a unique turtle appeared for all of two panels:

This issue, the origin of the Turtle Who Carried a World in a Teacup on Her Back:

She was a queen who betrayed her husband, a powerful sorcerer-king. He turned her into a turtle.

The origin of Kadabra, of Fabletown's enigmatic Thirteenth Floor:

So he settled down in Fabletown in the mundane world and became a professional stage magician. And that's how he remained until his murder by Dorothy Gale in the modern day.

The origin of the Porky Pine:

Methinks she's Bellflower/Totenkinder.

The woman, not the turtle.

We have yet to meet the replacement queen for the turtle.

It was a REALLY good issue of Fables, as by accessing minor characters and their story it really played it's strength.

And Bellflower looks gorgeous.

I just read the latest TPB - the superheroes arc and didn't really love it. This is after feeling underwhelmed by the past few runs. Is the next arc a bit more exciting?

I loved this issue, especially the Russell and the Art Nouveau Hughes.

Oh... wow Bellflower...

I believe I shall borrow a phrase most usually used by other members and I'll just say "I'll be in my bunk".

PS: Amazing how despite all the ultra-sexualization of so many women in comics it's rarer for me to find a pic like this which makes me stay speechless for a bit than other people finding one of a sexy male. Just goes to show that sometimes that sexualization does avoid getting an appreciable middle ground.

It's Adam Hughes, are you surprised that he made her look incredibly attractive and yet completely believable, both in pose and proportions?

I mean, that's kind of his "thing"... ;)

Ok, true enough.

I haven't ever gotten many of his work on my pull list and I guess I've just forgotten that there still are out there artists that can make sexy without making my mind just say 'that's frigging stupid pandering'.

That and the lack of high heels or shoes at all. I'm sick of those in whatever caption I see as a quick and ugly approach to some kind of sex appeal.

It's the color shift, the way her hair flows, and her eyes in the first panel of the second page that totally make it for me. (:

At the risk of sounding redundant:
Hummana-Hummana-Hummana.

That turtle story was neat too.

Seconded. Bellflower isn't usually portrayed as this... buxom.

And that entire turtle thing has the makings of a story arc or spinoff mini. I'd love to see Rose Red do some pirate swashbuckling in the Teacup Archipelago. Yarrrrrrr!

I just realized. That goat with Bellflower-- is that the same one from the Peter and Max novel?
