The real question I ended with issue 5 was "Wait, aren't Wonder Woman, Superman and Cyborg dead from the Enchantress' first attack?" Since it seems her attacks have led to the deaths of all those involved aside from the JLA Dark nonmembers and there isn't any actual reversal of the event. I mean I'm guessing they're alive but there's nothing in the story to actually tell me that.
I could've swore they were just overwhelmed and presumed as casualties, thus why Zatanna was so adamant about going off on her own and stopping Batman from following her. Hmmm, I might have to go back and read my copy...
I hope there's a page missing between the last two scans otherwise John got the rhyme wrong
There was a crooked man, Who walked a crooked mile. He found a crooked sixpence, Upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, Which caught a crooked mouse. And they all lived together In a little crooked house
I remember that from when I was a kid. Need to read the issues so far before I can comment on everything else. Except that the person writing still doesn't get John Constantine's voice very much at all.
Personally, I hated what they did to Xanadu's character in this (though the art served her well). And the whole arc turned out to be the 'team' fixing an error made by one of them involving one of them, not a team aligning against an outside threat too large for any single individual to handle (except Constantine). Glad Milligan's being replaced by Lemire.
I like it. It feels right to me that characters on a book like this would be dysfunctional and not get along with each other, and be more about screwing up than saving the day. When you've got Constantine on your "team," some screw-ups should be expected.
I like Lemire, but if he's planning on making this more of a superhero book that honors the "Justice League" in the title as he says, then my interest is dropping. Especially since he's planning on having some of the characters leave with Milligan, which I'm guessing will include Shade.
Well, DC IS trying to market it as a JL book, so having the story reflect what's being advertized isn't necessarily ill-advised. Plus, Lemire's Superboy managed superhero and supernatural in a way that worked for me (and he used Phantom Stranger, which might bode well for the JLD future!). I'm okay with some dysfunction, but the whole women-with-too-much-power-go-crazy thing has been played out quite often enough IMO. That's what Marvel is for. And worse, a woman causes the other woman to go crazy because, even though she's immortal and should be well-versed in these things, she's just not as smart as Constantine, and requires a good slapping now and then, apparently (yes, she hit him back, but male/female strength levels are NOT equal). Add to that Zatanna's near-uselessness (she, too, was only saved by getting tantric with Constantine;notice a trend?), and the book was a little too wighted in favor of one gender for me. Lemire couldn't do much worse with these characters, at least insofar as the females are concerned.

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
