I've been waiting for Daken to stop disappointing me

These past months, it's been a long and tiresome wait. Until finally, on the final stretch, things start looking as they did when I would post the comic proudly. But the comic's about to be canceled, so no dice, not really.

Context and spoilers: Daken is dying. Reed offers help, Daken refuses coldly. Reed says "This isn't you."

And a scan from Deadpool #50. I love this Daken. Beguiling, well-drawn, clever and calm at some intervals. Even when they cancel the damn comic, I hope there's some heel face turn and he goes on in other comics.

It's a hell of a man who can take a shot at LA's Kingpin of Crime, a ruthless monocle-wearer who can go hit for hit with Thor (which just makes the shot being a perfectly normal one seem like a research failure on Daken's part), and somehow escape his wrath off-screen.

I guess he just cleared city limits, and then Nefaria was like " .. I don't care. I've got to go chase Moon Knight down now. "

Nefaria's always baffled me. I think it's the mix of not being able to take him seriously in that outfit while knowing him as this super powerful top dog.

HA! Oh yeah, definitely need to pick up that Moon Knight run now. :D

But it's nice when they use older villains in new ways.

Why would Reed offer to help Daken?

Daken conned Reed and became a friend of the family as a result early in his run.

Did they make it clear that it was a con? Just asking because from the scans I've seen I kinda felt that it was an equal chance that he just liked them. Well, Johnny and Ben at least.

It definitely started as a con, as a mean to an end (involving some rather elaborate set up). In so far as Daken can have genuine feeling for people, I do think he ended up considering Johnny a friend though. Perhaps the rest, too.

Well... he connected with the FF because of a con, because he needed an advantage. But the enjoyment and friendship he got from Johnny and then Ben seemed genuine, and he didn't get anything out of it besides the friendship itself.

One of the good things that came out of his actions :)

Old FF relations. Daken's a friend of the family, because he did them some favors and they translate it into letting him in.
