Wonder Woman #07 rotting spoilers

I've touched on the Batman spoilers today, but they start off with the revelations about Diana and her people. It's a new low for DCnU.
It's a doozy and may not sit well with most of you. Heck, the new S_D protocols may even be triggered.

Shouldn't we have a tag for "everything you thought you knew was wrong."?

I guess Donna is going to have a say about this other brother, and I am not too fond of this darker, seedy Paradise Island. It honestly sounds like a brothel/labor camp of the gods than an ideal community led by women, made of women, for the women.

That's very in keeping with the noir/horror aesthetic, and I wouldn't necessarily object to it if this were in a different universe with a different character. But this is Wonder Woman we're talking about here, right? This is supposed to be one of the great civilizations of the DC Universe. And this book is supposed to be one of the flagship books. I don't get it.

Just because they're a great civilization doesn't mean they're all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, more often than not, Great Civilizations are either the exact opposite of have some very nasty skeletons in their closet.

DCU Amazon's (in recent history) don't deny the skeletons, and they carry sharp pointed objects when the horrors of the past come back out to haunt them. But they kept to their ideals of being prepared and rising above the horrors of the flesh and soul.

Yea, but this is getting into Guardians of the Universe territory, turning a once-heroic group into massive villains.

The Amazons have never denied that, but the notion up until now was that as a society they HAD outgrown it. Not universally for the sake of dramatic necessity, but the vast majority.

No idea, I was thinking this in terms of the old Wonder Woman.

I've always come to believe that Paradise Island in the DCU was a place built on the ideals of the best of people. Women who have lived under the threat of man and gods alike, survived horrors and rose above them.

Now it just reads like Xena Warrior princess than anything else. I can still remember dressing up like superheroes as a kid and my sister wanting to be an Amazon from Paradise Island to fight alongside Wonder Woman (I wanted to be a Kryptonian). This new change will surely change the definition of what at Amazon "is". It does nothing to tarnish the image of Wonder Woman herself, but really makes me sick about what people have become.
