It's interesting seeing the reaction that this book got--I could never get into it, because it felt to me like it was trying way too hard to be cutesy that it grated at me.
That being said, I'm actually looking forward to Superman Family Adventures, because it seems like that book is going to have more of a story to it instead of "look at all this adorable kids and their adorable antics! Laugh with them! Isn't it so heartwarming and lovely? Isn't it? ISN'T IT?!!?"
I did find it hit or miss at times, with some odd moments that just seemed to fizzle out, or end very oddly, but I found the hits so appealling that it was enough to tide me over the rest of it. :)
Plus, it was a Tiny Titans image (the three Robins in their car seats) that sparked the entirety of the Black Cat's "Batman and Sons" series so, for that, I'll forgive it just about anything this side of war crimes.
There were jokes that fell flat, but all and all it was an awesome book. It was nice to pick up something 'family friendly' in the current DC lineup that we all wanted to read... And from a parent's perspective, Tiny Titans and Superpets books were what got my son into reading, and considering he was a late bloomer in that area, it was a Godsend.
As others have said, there were plenty of jokes that fell flat (I personally remember not being all that impressed with the very first issue I read) but also had enough enjoyable moments in it to make up for it.
Also, many fans of the Titans enjoyed it simply for having Titans characters that DC either killed, made evil, or made horribly angsty and using them in a way that was actually entertaining and respecful. The same can be said for the Marvel Family and Cass Cain in this book, too.
Awww... I'm as sad as the day a friend from school died... ...what??
On another note, awwwww yeah Titans! Nice transition into the new book with that Superman-bit! I still wish more characters had made it into Tiny Titans...like Cir-El or Mia!Speedy...or...or...
On a related note, I'll probably be drawing some more Tiny Titans myself, to "continue" these in a way~ Here's some of mine ('was gonna post them on the fanarts thread...but it was more fitting over here!)
oh god,,, what is this feeling in my chest it's... it's adjpaodsos;adajsf
Narrator: and so, Shadowpsykie's heart grew three sizes larger... and then he died, because the human body cannot handle a heart that is three sizes larger! and so on his grave is marked "Shadowpsykie, dead from the Cute:"
I wonder if part of the reason Didio fought so hard to keep Tiny Titans going when it was unprofitable is precisely because of those? They really were great at sniping playfully at the editorial types for their worse ideas, but got away with them because "the target audience wouldn't know what they're talking about"...
I'm betting we'll see the Titans show up in the new Superman Adventures comic Art and Franco will be working on. Heck the Jimmy there and here is identical for one thing and they reference both of Superman's new post Flashpoint outfits in this issue (the Action comics jean and T shirt as above and his new armory looking suit).
