I must confess, that after Beast Wars I have not kept up with the different versions of the Transformers, being turned off by some of the later versions of the rich mythology.

With that said, Transformers: Autocracy has grown on me. ComicBookResources
has the preview of issue #8, and this one scene just makes me feel the spirit and power of old.
(Translation: I can hear the 80's character voices saying the words as I read)

Yes, I hear Peter Cullen as I read that frame, and I get the fan-gasm.

interesting. So this takes place at the end of Cybertron's golden age, but before the decepticon split?

The early stages of the Decepticon/Autobot war are well underway at this point. Zeta Prime just happens to be mad with power to the point where Optimus (not Prime yet) has to team up with Megatron.

Or I could have just linked you to that in the first place.

I love how you can practically hear the gravel in Megatron's voice, "Liberators." Or maybe that's because I was rewatching the old movie a few nights ago...

Oh, and it's worth noting that IDW and Comixology have a 50% sale on Transformers right now. 24th-26th. A good a time as any to try this out!

By 80s voices, you mean how they talked in 80s, or how the original voice actors talk in "Prime" (BLASPHEMY FOR NOT HAVING FRANK VOICE MEGATRON IN THY BAY-FORMERS!)

Frank Welker does the voice of Megatron in Transformers Prime on the Hub. Sounds darn good, too. Different from the old voice, lower and a little gravelly, but still good.

I prefer his Prime take to the G1...there's an annoying screechiness to it in G1, that doesn't suit Megatron near so well as it does Starscream.

There's a darker, more dramatic tone to it.

I just miss Chris Latta as Starscream.

Latta was a fine actor, but I think Steve Blum does a great job, too - my default voice for Screamer in my mind is a blend of Latta and Blum - about as high as Latta's but with Blum's delivery.

(Tom Kenny also did a great job in Animated, but since he wasn't paired with Cullen and Welker, he's kind of beside the point.)

Which frame? I didn't see Optimus speak...

I think he meant the first panels, but that looks to me like Astrotrain speaking.

I hate the art on Autocracy so much. I'm enjoying the story, but the art is do damned muddy. It never quite gets to the point of obscuring what's going on, but it does obscure the character designs are many points, and makes you work to figure out what's going on more than it should.

It's, thus, my least favorite of the current IDW comics, with only a few - All Hail Megatron, Bumblebee (also mostly an art issue), Maximum Dinobots, and a couple of the less interesting Spotlights ranking lower, in IDW's overall output.

I really, really wish IDW would get Ramondelli off art already. His drawing is awful. Half the time the characters seem to be made up of cubes, the other half you can barely make out who they are.

What's really frustrating is, aside from him, IDW's Transformers line currently has some of the best artists around - Alex Milne, Andrew Griffith, Casey Coller (who currently only does covers), Nick Roche (ditto, and needs to be kept away from drawing humans, but that's not an issue right now) and the colourists Josh Perez and Joanna Lafuente... Bring back Don Figueroa or Guido Guidi - or give Coller and Roche some interiors again - to replace Ramondelli, and I'd be able to say that without qualification!
