Oh, I totally buy it. Have you seen her teaching style? Tough is prioritized!

Toph is hella tough, but even as a teacher she was a prankster. I can't see Lin stealing someone's staff and using it to crack nuts.

I get the impression Lin has some unresolved issues with her mother. Korra is a lot like Toph - Independent, headstrong, and confrontational. Beating up and humiliating some Triad thugs while causing massive property damage is exactly what Toph would have done in Korra's place.

Of course, it's possible Toph changed when she grew up, but I'd rather think of her as staying that tomboy badass forever.

Toph's something of a prankster, but she does it to get people to do as she tells them. Her students in the comic seem to view her as a tyrant.

Oh, just because she was a prankster as a kid doesn't mean she'd want her own kids to be pranksters.

And when you think about it, Lin's attitude makes a lot of sense when you remember that she was raised by a woman that can tell where you are and what you're doing within fifty feet from any direction, and always knows when you're lying.

Except up; given the strongly tactile and seismic (and therefore--to use an unavoidable pun--earthbound) nature of Toph's Earthbending, I'm betting that the Cirque du Soleil approach to law enforcement is something Lin didn't learn from Mom--I suspect her of having adopted Airbending influences from Aang and Tenzin.

Wasn't Lin's father a guy named Ohev? He briefly showed up in a previous Avatar comic, and the creators confirmed it.

After the most recent episode, I'm kind of waiting for Lin to teach Korra metalbending*, or at least police-related stuff. 'Cause it would be cool, wouldn't it.

*Assuming Korra can learn metal bending. I have a theory that Avatars can only learn the special ability of their native element. Korra can heal, and we've never seen Aang healing, metalbending, or lightningbending, so spiritbending would the the air special ability. Which ties into my theory that Amon is Aang's oldest son Bumi...

I'm going to go with Amon being Aang himself, with some spirit in his body keeping himself alive with the bending energy stolen from others.

I highly doubt it. For one thing, the only bending skill we've seen so far that could be called a "special ability" was Combustion Man's explosions - everything else was just a different version of regular bending that anyone of the correct element could learn with enough time and patience. We may have never seen Aang heal, but we did see him use Toph's "tremor sense," so there's no reason to think he couldn't learn to heal if he wanted to.

Also, what does "spirit" have to do with air? Or rather, how is spirit unique to air? Remember, all the bending arts have a spiritual side to them. Even if that were true, it's been revealed that Bumi is the only non-bender out of all of Aang's kids.

Spirituality seems much more important to air than other elements. Korra isn't very spiritual at all, so she can't yet airbend, yet is very skilled with the other elements. As for Bumi, maybe he went on a quest to gain bending abilities, and ran into some spirits who taught him to take away other people's bending, which is how Amon claims to have learned it. Like I said, it's a Wild Mass Guessing, I just thought it sounded really cool.

"Lover" sounds more oogieful between two people in their mid-teens, much more so than "sweetie."

I really liked how in the last episode were were shown that Lin is fully capable of Toph-level awesomeness, as well as building up her character some. Prior it just kind of made her look like a stereotypical "Da Chief" kind of character, a gruff police chief who won't stand for the hero's mischief.

Like her turn as the Amazing Spider-Lin for example.
