Journey Into Mystery #639 preview
Jun. 1st, 2012 06:24 amComicBookResources has the preview as the Manchester Gods arc begins.
Sorry it took me so long, but the one panel below the cut made my brain explode. Thank goodness I am a Marvel zombie, and don't really need it, but scooping up brains and placing them back in my head does take time.

And here I keep thinking I have seen it all..... nope.
Just so utterly absurd and awesome...

Date: 2012-06-01 04:36 pm (UTC)Loki should be evil, the whole [Avengers movie] fandom goggles see him as cute and stuff, and that is bs, he dont need a Hug He needs a Lobotomy! I remember that awfull anime where Loki was some kind of kid detective, argh! Actually my sister is a big fan of mythology and she pass me the "hate".
Push that aside, I havent been reading this comic, why Loki is a child? I think Im going to pick this one.

Date: 2012-06-01 04:48 pm (UTC)In this incarnation, he's been mischievous, tricksy, conniving, manipulative, clever, playful, ruthless, and about fity-six flavors of awesome. He has a hel-hound puppy, his best/frenemy is Leah, the cranky teenage handmaiden of Hela, and his advisor is Ikol, a raven with all the memories and attitude of old style Loki.
He also has a laundry list of enemies a mile long - both those who hate or distrust him because he's Loki and they doubt he'll ever change, and those he's pissed off ever since he came back, even though his motives have apparently been a lot more altruistic. (Killing Thor to save everyone during Fear Itself, and other such things....)
And I live in fear of the day when they reboot him back to evil adult Loki because of the movies. I love, love, love, love, teen Loki as playful trickster antihero and want him to stay forever and be awesome.

*raised other eyebrow* .... okay.
Loki is a child because he engineered a whole situation where Asgard was attacked and he sacrificed himself to save it. He had previously struck deals with Hela and Mephisto so that his name would be struck from list of dead so that when Thor used the rest of the Odinforce powers he had post JMS to resurect him he ended up as a child without most of his memories of evil deeds. Said memory, by the way, remains in the magpie called Ikol that Loki keeps as an advisor. His motivation was that by being too evil too many times, he was stuck being overly predictable, which would be way too boring for a trickster. Basically he pulled a reverse Sandman.
And you should pick it, it's very, very good.
he dont need a Hug He needs a Lobotomy!
Wow that is grossly and hideously ableist. Given the history of Lobotomy practices against people judged by society as insane (whether they were or not) until not that long ago, to make such a comment in jest, especially if it's in answer to a the Loki portrayal in the movie where he seems quite insane indeed -- that's plain disgusting.

Date: 2012-06-01 05:21 pm (UTC)Also, if you want evil adult Loki, there's around fifty years of that. They're taking the character in a new direction, doing lots of fun stuff with him, and this run has been pretty universally beloved. Not really seeing any good reasons to make it go back just to shut down a new group of fans.

Date: 2012-06-01 05:24 pm (UTC)As someone else pointed out that is grossly offensive considering the very real practice of giving anyone who had mental disabilities such as depression and even something like being rebellious towards ones parents lobotomies as a quick cureall.
Also if you look into the character's history the whole reason why he was "evil" was due to massive father issues. To make a long story short he was jealous of Thor and felt that Odin and company neglected him as a child and that Thor and his friends bullied him relentlessly. Whether or not his feelings are warranted could be up for discussion but I would argue that on the contrary he is a guy who could use a second chance to grow up and do it right rather than be a victim of predetermined destiny. (Yes I own the trade of Robert Rodi's excellent "Loki" miniseries...I suggest reading it).
And as someone else said even mythological Loki wasn't evil. Conniving yes. A bastard, yes. And yes he was set up to be the one to instigate Ragnarok but way I see it if I were bound to a rock with snake venom dripping in my eyes for an untold thousands of years just because of the fact that I showed up drunk to a party and made the other gods look bad I wouldn't be in the mood to sit for tea and cookies when I got free either.
And as much as I love the movie, I hope they don't turn him back into a villain ala Movie Loki. I like the version that he's been in JIM and a few other places. He's fucking awesome and I hope he stays for a long time.

Date: 2012-06-01 05:26 pm (UTC)As for the way the Avengers fandom perceives Loki, I'm fairly sure that the reasoning is because of Loki's motives in the Thor movie: his inferiority complex; the drive to seek Odin's acceptance and approval; resentment at serving a brother unworthy of the throne conflicting with not wanting the throne himself, and; perhaps most importantly a desire to be seen as Thor's equal. Putting all of these things together, Loki isn't inherently evil.
(In my opinion) He was pushed over the edge to the point of "I don't care anymore, I'll do what makes me happy regardless of everyone else". I'm not saying he's a good person (good people do not enslave worlds), but neither is he an entirely bad person. He resents and hates his brother, yet still loves him deeply. He has all these strange and conflicting ideas that make sense to him (mostly anyway) but not to everyone else. He's a very complex character, which I guess is part of why he's so popular.
Then again, I haven't seen the Avengers movie yet (haven't had time, and I've been doing my best to hide from spoilers D:) so everything above could just be nonsense.
