Lots of things going on at Comic-Con in 2 weeks in Sn Diego, (yeah, I'm going) but here's one of the *yawn* big ones.

Entertainment Weekly has the scoop.

"Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell;
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die."

John Donne.

And death not be permanent.

Yup, Jean Grey is coming back to the true 616 universe.

I love Cap too (but see above or last week's rant)

But yeah. I want Jean Fucking Grey back, I want her kick collective ass on everyone, and I want Emma and Jean to be besties. or frenemies. talk shit about scott, wolverine's grooming habits/beer stink, and just have fun together...

...man, I should be excited about this. I love Jean. But damn if I don't expect this to end up being Rachel taking her mom's old costume and name or a time-displaced chrono-echo or something. Or bringing her back for one panel and killing her off. Or having this be another First Class series. (Though I love First Class.)

Still, if it works out, yay! Don't get back together with Scott! STAY AWAY FROM THAT MAN AND HIS HORRIBLE DEATH PENIS. Become the new Marvel psychologist, now that Leonard Sampson is dead! (Is he still dead?)

I've been wondering if they'll do that, too. If they do, I hope it has some real gravity behind it. Plus, if this is Jean, lord, they really just can't let it go. Let her be dead for good already by the hands of Xorn that wasn't Magneto but not the other Xorn either.

I can only hope so. Maybe if Jean takes over as leader of the X-men they won't suck as badly as they have the last 10 years.
We'' also find out that she and Emma had been having lesbian psychic sex for many years before her death (and maybe after).

I wouldn't mind Emma going evil (or at least grey again). She's more enjoyable that way IMO.

And I second the ewww on Jean/Logan. I hated it even in the Ultimate Universe - where even in that crapsack world, it was shown to be something that burned itself out within the space of a couple issues and then she was chasing Scott again and then there was Claremont's X-Men Forever continuity where literally moments after she dumped Scott and declared Logan the love of her life he was dead and she was getting it on with Beast and then when HE died she started with Scott again (seriously!). I halfway think Claremont hated Jean based on that.
But its obviously something that the Marvel editors want and if Cyclops was dead (as everybody assumes) then they will definitely go there.

A part of me actually wants her to be Jean's mind in Hope's body (and I like Hope and actually hoped they kept her rather than Jean) because it would totally point out the ickiness of Logan/Jean if it did happen.

Yeah, that story was really weird. She died, but then she came back in the future and ascended into super Godhood or something.

And then Endsong happened and she ascended into super Godhood again.

But for some reason her body was still sticking around. Even though she ascended into super Godhood in it.

Endsong has a really weird place into continuity.

I have a feeling that it's going to be something else. Jean back in time, or perhaps that's Hope but Jean Grey's inhabiting her body, or something else entirely. I dunno. It seems that to tease us with this when we're only halfway through the event seems rather... odd.

On the other hand, from what I've seen of current X-Men comics (and what they've done to my poor Emma), I have a feeling this is not actually going to make me happy.

There's a reason I always said that these fuckin creators need to THINK before doing any kind of shock moment. Think before doing it and it sure as fuck better make sense and mean something. Don't do it just to do it and don't make it cheap. I don't mind a death and return on occasion but it gets sooo ridiculous when it's constant. Just stop killing characters and when one dies, make it mean something. By this point when someone dies, my reaction is "Oh he's fine. He'll be back next week."

It's.... really weird.
When was the last time Jean was resurrected? Because the status quo says she's dead for always. Like, in my head, she'll always be dead, because she died before I was born.

Bringing her back would just mess up my head canon, and apparently upset a lot of people.

I can't say good or bad because I never liked Jean. It's just... weird.

Yeah, I don't really count it as a real "death and resurrection" if a character doesn't spend several issues thought as dead. Likewise for when Cyclops died during Whedon's run for example. That sort of fake out happens way too often in comics to count as a "death".

Can she not have a romance with Logan or Scott if she's coming back? How about she's single and wants to stay single for awhile and figure out her life? And maybe go hang out with Storm, Domino, and Pixie because they're being sneaky and awesome.

It's just, this isn't much of a shocker ending when it's the thing I kept hearing people call when the Phoenix first started showing signs of coming back. The neat twist would to not bring her back.

Well, the picture I found, which was apparently from the full Entertainment Weekly article, has already been posted. However, Bleeding Cool just posted an article reading out a specific part of that EW article that probably explains how Jean's back:

"ALL NEW X-MEN: Brian Bendis takes on the most eccenctric and controversy-baiting Marvel NOW! book. The pitch: The original five teenage X-Men time-travel to the present day. “Here’s the big question that the original X-Men are gonna be faced with: ‘We’re gonna grow up and this is what we’re going to to get? That is not acceptable.” NOV. 2012"

It also frankly explains why Jean is wearing her old-school uniform.
