Beyond the Big Two Week: Moring Glories (#1-5) Image

Okay so, this is an AMAZING Series... Didn't know WHAT exactly to post. SO i wanted to focus in on one of my favorite Characters, Casey Blevins, But before that, A little Background. the Story focuses on 6 New Students at the prestigious Morning Glory Academy... Casey Blevins, Jun, Jade Ellsworth, Ike, Hunter, and Zoe.

They are all... gifted in some way. Coming from different walks of life. Really ALL the characters are Amazing. but Casey and Jun are my two favorite (Today I will post about Casey, tomorrow, a bit about Jun.)

So, Things at Morning Glory Academy are... a little off...



Issue #1










So... Casey, seeing that some of this stuff is just too weird, decides to ask questions.





.... She does't Like the Answers....




So Issue #2 picks up with the Faculty wanting to go back to business as usual... She is not very interested in that...










They Have a difference of opinion as you can see....
The Faculty is however very persistent...







They are educators of course.





Casey and Jade have grown close, so when they take Jade away, Casey wants to take action....

Issue #3 shows Jade's Ordeal in the Nurses office (the Nurse is not very nice....)

Issue #4

So... Casey has a plan, that involves the other four.



(there is some more stuff that shows some of the stuff she learned from her ex-Marine father, like making tear gas... but this is already getting long:)

But they are Betrayed by one of their own.

Issue 5



so they scatter...





They Run into some problems....









So their plans are for naught?

or are they....

So... how did she do it? She's Bad ass...













She even gets a little pay back :D








So yeah... this is just a bit from the first arc of Morning Glories. Its really, Lost meets the Breakfast Club or the Runaways (seriously, i can hear the lost "Chime/Tone" after each beat :D

Tomorrow, I will be posting about my other favorite Character, Jun :D Hope you guys enjoyed this :D

I loved Morning Glories when I first got into it, but I can't even remember which issue I left off of. :/ How far up is it in issue numbers?

20. And honestly? I have no fucking clue what's going on any more. It's gotten waaaay too "Lost" for me.

When the author started describing this series as the Lost of comics, well, that was enough to kill my interest. I detested that show.

The art is good, the writing has interesting ideas and nice twists, sometimes, but when I see mystery piled up on mystery, I just get the suspicion the author doesn't have a clue where he's going, and he's just buying time to come up with something.

I don't know. There's a difference, to me, between a show run by one guy employing a good handful of writers - which always reeks of too many cooks but I'm sure that's how it was with Lost - and a comic book written by one guy that's steadily building up it's mysteries.

But MG definitely has a faster pace that Lost, and the recent PE arc confirms that, to me, so I'm more confident that Spencer knows what he's doing. It's just a shame, frankly, that his other work isn't nearly as good, IMO. His mainstream work has been really lacklustre, save for a few things.

I'm a massive fan, but I definitely read from the trades (the third volume just came out!).

Much easier to follow in big chunks!

I was really interested in this title from seeing the covers back when it started. But if it IS like Lost, NOOOOOOOOOO

It's pretty compelling here but I hate the trapped-ness of the situation, and those teachers, so much that I don't know if I could manage reading it without having to go and get into fights afterwards, you know?

I'll keep an eye out for trades on sale, I think, and do strenuous exercise after reading.

well, it's like early Lost, or Lost done right if you like. its like lost in that yeah its a trapped situation and there are paranormal things going on, and yeah the teachers are evil, there is one pretty cool one, the Guidance Counselor, that you meet in issue.... 17?

I followed this religiously but puttered out at issue 14 or so when it stopped being about the characters and started focusing on the backstory that I did not in any way understand ): So yeah, no more.

you missed out on issue 18 :D issue 18 is worth the wait (my icon is a hint:D (and i think 15 was the last of the "backstories" well at least the indepth back stories.

I KNOW right? And we even get an interesting new character out of it.
Although I actually suspected that ~~~ was gay from the first few issues. My gaydar pinged him from when he was interacting with other people. I like how it came out (no pun intended) like this.

I actually thought that Jun was gay for Hunter :)) So I was.... half right? The way they acted around each other was very reminiscent of poor nice straight guy and his infinitely more successful and smart and strong gay roommate.

Like Scott Pilgrim. Except Hunter's not a douche to girls. But he IS Canadian.

Also, "The hour of our release draws near" is the corniest line to sex EVER.

Hmmm, the Lost analogy also kills it for me, I disliked that show with a burning apathy.

And the generic Evil Academy of Evil showing how evil they are by killing and torturing innocents (The but where the strangles his pet pupil to show how heartless he is so eye rollingly obvious I was actually praying it was a fakeout), without I'm guessing, any explanation as to what their purpose actually is, is pretty much an automatic turn off. I'm all for a bit of mystery, but not at the cost of motivation to that extent.

The idea use that they are trying to "Build a better future" also there sense to be two factions. There is the woman and the strangler, who seem to be the "by any means" people, and then there us te woman's sister and Abraham who seem to have the same goal, but are you know, against the murder and torture... Also, in one if the flash forwards I've if the students seems to have taken over and things seem different...

Iow, its not just a Generic Evil Academy

The fact a couple of people are against doesn't seem to make much difference as they are still employing the "kill/torture/murder" teachers at present and allowing their methods without any apparent reprisal.

Any school which sanctions murder of innocents for it's own convenience is pretty much evil by definition, and whatever their agenda is I find it hard to believe it's a plausible balance to their actions.

I appreciate cute guy on guy action as much as the next person, but no, sorry, a cute moment does not make me give the rest of this any free passes, as squirle notes, it's just so unpleasant to read.

I've heard a lot of good things about Morning Glories (I've heard Al from House to Astonish describe it as "tremendous" many, many times) but this... this is so unpleasant.... it does not seem to be someting I'd ever want to read.
