If I were Damien I wouldn't be so snotty. He's the one who brought a crowbar into a room with the Joker to be cute, and got his ass handed to him soon after.
after seeing the rest of this preview... i don't like this at all... Damian is acting like a little brat. What does this prove? Jason already said he is not going to fight him all out... I was just starting to like Damian, now... now he is just acting like a brat....
The best part is the last panel, Damian riding a motorcycle with Jason's mask on top, whistling. XD
Of course, it's all going to bite him in the ass, and I assume Dick's going to talk some sense into him when he get to Dick, but still...I thought it was funny.
I'm not liking this at all. Mind you, I didn't like the idea of Damian needing to prove himself the "Alpha Robin" by beating Bruce's other adopted sons for all the unfortunate implications that come with the idea, but this is sinking to all kinds of lows that I'm not even going to bother with the rest of the issue or the story arc for that matter. I don't care for Damian's special snowflake trip.
Don't really think that it's meant to be a positive thing on Damian's part, as even the other Robins know that it's ridiculous. Could say that this story would be the ideal place to bring Steph back into things, but they seem to have retconned her time as Robin (along with her possible time as Batgirl) so that doesn't look likely to happen.
I'm actually okay with this. It's clear that this isn't Jason and is actually some kind of alien metamorph with a less-than-basic grasp of human facial anatomy. Damien obviously realizes this, and is going right for the speedy takedown.
to me it's like Jason said. yes, it kinda still hurts, but he is also largely past that. And he is also not going all out. because he doesn't want to beat up a 10 year old...
Damian is a little shit..and god help me, sometimes, I downright love it! Jason telling him he knows where he lives, Damian whistling with Jason's helmet on his bike. Just gave me such a great laugh. I like the ideal of this arc, but I do hope it isn't just Damian vs all Robins. Would personally like to see Dick and Jason finally settle things. Still, this has got to be Damian's arrogance reaching its peak. After this, there better be a real road to maturity because no way his arrogance can go any higher. Still, just looks really fun.
He could try to beat up Cass again, but considering they ended up on goodish terms at the end of Gates of Gotham (after she'd earlier showed he stood no chance against her) it doesn't seem likely.
Ugh. Good Lord. You know I have wanted to give Damian a chance. I really, really wanted to at least be able to tolerate him.
But this...this and the previous issue with Tim and the way he's been acting overall since the reboot is just not making it possible for me. He's nothing but a little shit, an ungrateful pompous arrogant brat in bad need of a spanking.
I hope the writers are planning on making this a set up on the road to some life lesson which will humble the kid completely and make him a better person. *polishes Blue Ring*
I think what bothers me most (once I get past the "Damian out to outdo all the other Robins" idea which tends to make me facepalm, is how... uncreative this is. Effectively he walks in, beast the shit out of Jason and walks out again with his prize, I was hoping for something a little more subtle, but I suppose Jason sort of IS the violent Robin, not the subtle Robin, that'll be Tim perhaps. But maybe a few boobytraps in the safehouse, something like that.
Kind of curious how a Steph vs. Damian fight would go. Probably wouldn't be one as she seemed the only member of the Bat Family besides Dick who went out of her way to be genuinely nice to him.
Let's see, next issue, Tim and Damien go at it full out till Tim comes to his senses and lets Damien win, Dick just bes himself and avoids, gracefully, all of Damien's attacks till the kid tires himself out and Steph and D have a "who's got the better put down" war till we have another "What boob.....Wait a minute, something's not right here......
I don't see Damian using the same method twice, he says he want's to beat each of them at something they are supposed to excel at personally, so with Jason it's the fighting and being sneaky (and possibly "talking sass").
I surmise with Tim it'll be something involving tech savvy or forward planning, both of which are Tim's "pet" area's.
With Dick.. that's a tough one, as Dick excels at both the physical aspect, and I doubt Damian can begin to match his acrobatics, the detective work, or his social skills... which leads me to the pleasing, though improbable, mental image that Damian's plan to outdo Dick involves him organising a surprise party, inviting all Dick's friends and allies, and all without Dick FINDING OUT ABOUT IT, thus satisfying the social and detective aspects! :)
So...Damian has had no character development in any way since he was first introduced, is what I'm getting from this? Except that now he talks like an adult on a sitcom instead of a very smart ten-year-old? Hum.
He had character development, it's just that the writing is massively inconsistant.
He had character development under Morrison in his appearances, he had character development under Paul Cornell in his all too short Batman and Robin run, he even had character development in Scott Snyder's Gates of Gotham and Batman runs... Other writers for the most part just seem to write him as an arrogant jerk all the time.
Like in Gates of Gotham they actually had an explanation down for why he was behaving like a dick to Cass (when they met her for the first time he was too shy to speak to her, so he tried to overcompensate by insulting and undermining her at every juncture, while implictly bringing up her "trouble" to say why Dick, Tim etc. are wrong to trust her) but by the end of the arc he works through it. Partly because people point out that the problem is with Damian, not Cass. As Tim said "She's just another person your father chose over you".
Oh fuck off. If anyone else did this, they'd be considered a villain. What's he going to do next, hunt down the gun that Joker used to cripple Barbara and wave that in front of her face? Fuck this. Bruce needs to give the kid a good slap the back of the head, because this is ridiculous. Does Tomasi actually think we NEED a story where Damian proves himself, as though Bruce didn't magically accept him and deal with him as soon as Talia dumped him on Bruce? Are we supposed to root for Damian here?
Although I'm laughing at the irony that finally someone remembered that Jason didn't disobey orders out of cockiness but because his mother lied to him...
Wow, that was just so...Damien. This is the kid who (in one timeline) grows up to be a Batman who sells his soul to the devil for a healing factor and plants bombs all over Gotham to give him an edge.

AMAZING.
The crowbar is just fucking gross, though. There's no respect here for any of the characters involved.
Pity. I thought this story had the potential to be cute.
