INSUFFERABLE is a webcomic by Mark Waid and Peter Krause, the first title to come out from Thrillbent, the line of webcomics that Waid and John Rogers recently started up (and which Waid sold his entire comic book collection to help fund).

It asks the question: What happens when you’re a crimefighter and your sidekick grows up to be an arrogant, ungrateful douchebag? What on Earth could draw the two of you back together again?

Here are a selection of scenes from the first six "issues." The full run of the series is available for free at http://www.thrillbent.com.

I dunno I rather like the idea of this, Nocturnus is sort of low budget Batman (and not the best father in the world) but is still trying his best to be a hero, and instead of Galahad being like Dick, who is the sort of son that Batman IS proud of, he becomes an bitter jerk (and not without at least some cause), those both seem like fairly plausible character spins to explore.

Really? Because I don't see anything Damieny in him. Seems more like Jason Todd to me. And I SWEAR it's not because of the hair.

He doesn't strike me as Jason at all. Jason isn't the sort to court the media to make himself look better than Batman, and even when he was trying to prove that his methods were better than Batman's, it was largely down to the fact that he felt wronged.

Batman's a damn good father and has the help of the entire Batfam and Friends, so I don't think it'll be that bad.

Oddly enough this seems like a comic series that would be perfect for a t.v. adaptation.

Low budget, non powered heroes? Yeah, that would be a big help, and it probably would make for an interesting show.

This... I like this. Crazy complicated relationship between father and son, different methods of being a hero... It works, really, and I'm on BOTH their sides at this point.

What's the most interesting is that we see it both ways. We see both perspectives, and there really isn't a "good dad, bad son" or "bad dad, good son" vibe. It's shades of grey! Which is much better than Irredeemable, which was shades of cold-hearted black.

I've been loving this quite a lot. It's typical Waid writing with subjects and reconstructions which most other writers go overboard with, but with which he can balance the facets of the characters and their overall greyness in moral situations.

Wow, this is all kinds of sad.

Galahad comes across as a resentful son who spent his entire adult life lashing out at his dad for robbing him of his childhood, yet he's still trying to get his approval. It almost seems like he doesn't actually give a damn about fame and fortune -- he's just trying to prove to his father that his way is better.

Nocturnus just takes it and always steps in to help out without asking for any credit because he also knows he ruined his son's childhood and he feels guilty. But he still has too much pride to gracefully accept help when he needs it and refuses to acknowledge that his son's methods have any merit.

And despite all of this, they still make a great team. It did take both of them to rescue that child.
