scans_daily Lawton's bulletriddled rampage continues, which rapidly gets the interest of both the local gangs, whose men DS is killing, and the cops. The local folk though couldn't be happier, so when two cops on the Russian mob's payrole attempt to find out from the hotel owner from the last issue whether Lawton is about, he's less then helpful.
Taking an opportunity for urban improvement from the temporary ceasefire, the local folks attempt to spruce the neighbourhood some...
The two cops attempt to confront Lawton, but he shoots their guns out of their hands and takes their back-up weapons. They tell him that he can't kill them because they're cops, and he agrees in this case. He does say that there are two possiblities here, either they're clean cops and they should stay out of his way and their jobs will suddenly be a whole lot easier, or they're dirty... in which case they should definitely stay out of his way. He then walks off, causing the cop who was actually injured in the disarming (who by complete coincidence is the more corrupt of the two) to track down Zoe's mum to see what her connection with DS is...
Meanwhile, the verdict regarding the autistic kid's dog is in, and the judge ruled in the resident's favour. To which their landlord responds by poisoning the dog out of spite. Michelle, Zoe's mum, decides to use the money Lawton gave her to pay for a vet to save the dog (something she feels guilty about, knowing where Floyd gets his money) while DS goes and see her landlord. And shoots him. Though nonfatal, DS explains that if the dog dies of anything other than old age, then he'll be back to shoot him somewhere other than his knees.
Floyd also uses the opportunity to extort the landlord, who owns most of the block, into paying for improvements to the neighbourhood out of hid own pocket, resulting in the area becoming a lot nicer.
Later though it appears that the cops have turned over information on Lawton and Michelle to the local head of the Russian mob. The gangster concludes that Michelle's kid might be DS' so that if they get rid of them then he'd have no reason to hang around. Besides this being TERRIBLE logic for dealing with a man who has effortlessly killed dozens of his men, the more moral of the two cops balks at the idea of killing or kidnapping Michelle or Zoe. On the basis that he might be on the take, but he's still a cop and innocent women and children are off limits. His friend isn't as on board with this as him though, and he and the mobster arrange to have some guys go around to "take care" of the kid and her mum.
Now, these guys know that Floyd had a son who was killed by a child molestor, so that makes the following action REALLY stupid on their part even if they weren't actually planning on killing them...
The corrupt cop tries to make a run for it, but Floyd shots him in the spine. After telling DS who sent the men to kill Michelle and Zoe, Floyd kills him and then goes to the Russian gangster's club.
After Floyd helped improve the neighbourhood etc. Michelle begins to warm up to him, even letting him hang around Zoe and stuff. The fact that he'd killed a cop, no matter now dirty, still warrants the attention of the police department though, so the commissioner calls in Green Arrow to bring Deadshot in for his many, many murders...
