Deadshot - part 5 of 5
Jul. 22nd, 2012 07:50 pmSorry, should be fixed now.
Floyd hears about the team of supervillains hired to kill him, and realising that he might die, he tries to spend as nice a day as possible with his new family...

That night, after Michelle and Zoe have gone to sleep, Floyd suits up and heads off to fight the bad guys, realising that as long as he's there, they'll keep coming for him and put his family in danger.

Fighting ensues...

Soon after, the heads of the three gangs meet, and it appears that although there was a dead body next to the remains of Deadshot's mask, they're not sure that he's actually dead. One of them says that it doesn't matter whether he is or not, all that matter is that he got in there way and now everyone THINKS that he's dead. With the newly gentrified area suddenly attracting a lot of rich people to the neighbourhood, they decide that there's no money to be made in the area anymore anyway. They declare a truce, with the area becoming neutral ground between their three territory.
Meanwhile, it seems that Floyd's agreements have stuck, with both a higher police presence in the area, Green Arrow showing up more often, and the charitable foundation set up by Floyd's parents donating a sizable chunk to Zoe's school.
News of Floyd's death doesn't reach everyone at the same time though, such as Michelle's landlord...

The series closes out with Killer Frost, an assassin and friend of Floyd's meeting him for a new job, and commenting that something seems different about him, and asks whether anything changed with him lately. His response? "Not a damn thing..."
And that's that for the Deadshot miniseries, though Michelle and Zoe were referenced in Secret Six etc. later on. I don't think that they exist in the new DCU though, like so many. Probably makes Floyd look too old or something.
Anyways, up next on my summary tour of the more obscure: Baltimore - the Plague Ships!

Date: 2012-07-23 04:34 pm (UTC)They seem to be doing better now, in their omnibus collections of Gotham Central, No Man's Land, Starman and the like, so maybe it'll be collected, I don't know.
Still kind of pissed that they didn't collect the last few storylines of Sandman Mystery Theatre to be honest. Seriously, just like two more and the series was over, ending the collections with the story they did was a terrible idea!

Date: 2012-07-23 04:56 pm (UTC)I remember going up to Gage at Wondercon's DC booth all those years back and he didn't have anybody lined up for him, so I got to talk to him for a while about him entering comics and expanding the Deadshot mini into an ongoing. That never happened, sadly, but luckily Secret Six came along.
