I remember that particular random double murder was seen as being a little excessive at the time... I sort of suppose that that gives it a purpose... kinda... albeit it rather a random one.



And for fun, a new addition to Nightwings equipment. Paragon (the villain of the piece) has sent a clock face crashing towards the street below.



(Boy that's a nice ass shot in the last panel above, isn't it? :) not a huge fan of guest artist Andres Guinaldo, but he has his compensations!)

A few well placed explosive pellets shatter it into a lot of much lighter rubble...

You mention not really liking the guest artist, I don't know, I almost like this better than the regular in many respects, the ass-shot being just one many. I like the slightly less muscled body, and the way Dick's hair is drawn. I think both 'fit' Dick's now 21 again age. *shrugs*

Sue me, I'm not a huge fan of the normal artist because I think it makes him look too much like pre-DCnU Dick who was in his later 20s.

I think my problem there is that there has been zero, zip, nilch and nada to noticeably differentiate between the pre- and post- reboot Nightwing's and certainly nothing to suggest that Dick is significantly younger than he was before (though in fairness the notion that Dick was 26 was only ever referenced once pre DCnU (and even then was linked to him having been Robin since the age of 16, which seemed off at the time, though is now, ironically, word of god) (Though since Batman is generally held to have been about 25 when he started his career, does ANYONE think Bruce looks to be as young as 30-ish?)

He appears to have lost whole chunks of his history, the effects of which we haven't even seen referenced (Is Dick a natural team leader like before? Is he still the most respected hero of his generation? We have no real sign of either yet, which is irksome, and yet he was able to fill in for Bruce for a year so must have been doing something right)

Alan Scott's boyfriend? Knockout's death in Secret Six? I don't know if it was fridging but I found it especially horrible because I wasn't even interested in the whole Death of the New Gods, and it just killed off several characters I really liked.

I haven't been reading Earth-1 so kinda missed the impact of Alan's dude. But OH GOD, Knockout. I blocked that one from my brain it hurt so. Poor Scandal, she just could not catch a break.

In all fairness, Knockout was killed at a time when all 5th world characters were being butchered. I think she was the only one to actually return

He hasn't shown up yet and I can't remember if they referenced it at all before, but apparently Bunker in TT went out looking for Red Robin in part because he had a pre-fridged (sort of) boyfriend. Lobdell said at SDCC that an upcoming issue of TT will involve Bunker's boyfriend waking up from a coma and trying to figure out why his lover ran off to the US to join a superhero team.
