The art IS pretty nifty. Done in the Archie "house" style but better than the usual fare.

This kinda thing works best if they're aware, to some extent, of the switch. Either

A: Have Archie, Reggie, Betty and Ronnie aware they've switched and have them have to adapt to the new reality

OR

B: Have them unaware, but have them retain the memories of their gender-swapped selves when they revert back.

That's the only way this scenario works as a lesson or a punishment. Otherwise it's just for Salem's benefit and he's getting off at watching them live their lives in this altered-reality.

Also? Where can I get some of that magic powder?

Ah, Salem doesn't need a reason to genderflip everyone beyond a need to amuse himself.

Him messing with people with magic was what got him turned into a cat as punishment. At least that was the basis in the TV show (he tried to take over the world or something) and seems to be the reason for it in the comic too.

But perhaps when they return to normal, they'll find that (for some reason they can't guess) they have more empathy for the other gender's outlook and experiences? As if they can imagine what it would be like to be a girl or a boy, without knowing the reason for their new insight? Who's to say if we ourselves, when we experience empathy for one unlike us, aren't unconsciously remembering our travails during a magic spell cast by a talking cat? Can you prove that didn't happen? No you cannot!

There's a rule of gender swaps in comics and manga, as noted at TV Tropes, that a dorky boy always becomes a hot girl, never an equally dorky girl. Gisele Lagace leans on that rule pretty heavily in her work.

I... kinda wonder what happens to the trans kids when one of these rule 63 spells goes down. Are they finally in the bodies they always wished for, and then miserable when they revert, or do the trans boys become trans girls and vice versa, so they're STILL stuck with sex not matching gender? Either way kinda bites hard...
