Fanart Thursday, atom_punk edition
Aug. 16th, 2012 12:59 amHello scans_daily,
I was fortunate enough to stumble on some truly wonderful art and I simply had to share them with the community. Perhaps you've seen them already, perhaps not, but I reserve the right to fanboy-squee regardless.
First and foremost is this beauty:
holy saturation batman! by *nebezial on deviantART
Love, love to the nth degree how solidly built Diana is. And her costume has evolved into actual armor while still retaining its color scheme and general appearance. Amazing! :D
The artist is apparently experiencing a comic book kick and has made some nice renders of Batman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Raven, Starfire, and even some impressive group pictures so please take a look at his gallery and show him some love.
New Young Justice by ~gabzillaz on deviantART
I honestly do not know all of these characters. I recognize Damian and the Christopher Kent/Superboy, and of course Lian but not familiar with the others. The young GL is someone named...Milagro Reyes? Does that ring any bells? ;)
Tried to limit this to one pic per artist, to try and give equal exposure, but I had to include this other piece by gabzillaz
What can I say about this one beyond that I love the colors, the Gotham noir feel, and just everything else about it!
This is part of a series of drawings the artist did. Taking the Roaring Twenties feel of Republic City one step further, showing Korra and Asami in the swanky period dress of the times, while still retaining the Asian influences that define the Avatar world.
I actually really liked the line-up for the Justice League Unlimited back in the Batman Beyond series when it first came out. Feels like there was potential some great new dynamics between characters while still seeming familiar.
Breakfast with the Bats. 'Nuff said.
That's it from me for now. Hope you all enjoy!

by Robert Frost
I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain -- and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,
But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
O luminary clock against the sky
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Date: 2012-08-26 05:02 pm (UTC)I've never been a die-hard GL fan for any of the characters so I think I can be pretty objective.
Animation is pretty good although the CGI look can turn some people away. But the quality is good and visuals are impressive. The GL constructs are certainly more varied than they were in the Justice League cartoon, which is always a plus.
Story-wise it's pretty basic Green Lanterns versus Red Lanterns, so don't expect Shakespeare from it. The plot is in a word: functional. It sets up the conflict and then steps aside for the pretty light show.
Characterization and voice acting is good, with Hal and Kilowog bashing heads and the Red Lantern defector Razor getting some good contemplative moments. And of course Aya, the GL artificial intelligence starts to come into her own as an individual which is nicely handled.
I'd say the best thing about the show is definitely the world-building aspect. The show definitely did this part right. It didn't stick Hal Jordan on Earth and let him fight terrestrial supervillains. It sent him into space to explore and meet aliens.
Spoiler alert:
Among the elements from the DCU you get to see are Mogo, Iolande, Thanagarians, Atrocitus, Bleez, Saint Walker, and the Star Sapphires. So it's very nice to see them get some exposure outside of comics.
