...Yeah, the way it's written so far, I wouldn't have gotten that it was Stephanie at all, or Barbara, for that matter. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I probably would have assumed that they made Dick a girl in the Smallvilleverse for added irony.
I was thinking of the Robin from the graphic novel. Name is just floating around the tip of my brain right now, the one where Bruce is old and beats Superman wearing some kind of battle suit.
Honestly, the 'WHERE'S THE TRIGGER!!' stuff in TDKR made me just break down in the cinema. Which is a shame because I thought that particular scene was great, otherwise.
I dunno, Batman talking to a criminal in that voice, fine. Batman talking to Nightwing in that voice... seems like overkill.
Or maybe he just has an identity-hiding voice distorter like Green Arrow used in the show... though that begs the question, why doesn't Nightwing have one too?
I thought it was a great issue, as always, loved the Clarl/Lois moments, (heh punch lex so hard his hair congress back:)
Nightwing kinda sounded like a mix between Stephanie and Barbara. Like, Barbara "could have said it" bit sound more like Steph. Which might be the point.
Well. That certainly is a take on Batman. Yessiree. I dunno though, I don't like seeing anyone but Dick as Nightwing, I feel like it detracts from the fact that Nightwing is the man that Robin grew up to be, one who is inspired not just by Batman but also Superman and all the relationships that he's formed with other superheroes. And while Nightwing is an ally of Batman, he is no one's sidekick/partner, he's his own dude doing his own stuff, something that this version and Aaron Diaz's Stephwing from his most recent Batman redesign fail to understand. So yeah, I recoil whenever anyone but Dick uses the name.
I read the issue. Enjoyed it..but Babs dialogue..definitely meant for Steph. I don't see why DC just couldn't let it be. There are some things that just downright strikes me as stupid...
Now as for the "To Be Continued" panel...well now..if this was on tv, this would be where we'd cue music!
If they were going to make it another female bat-character, why not just use Carrie Kelly? Then the progression to Nightwing - if she would've been the Smallville U's first Robin, would've at least been a kind of parallel.
As it is, DC knew that replacing Steph with Barbara would just incite that much more loathing, really. Especially with their insistent proliferation of the character since September.

yeah, that's no Babs.
On another note, I don't like Bruce's costume.
