FF #21

So this week over at DC we go to see some pairings happen, and at Marvel we saw some end.

We have another mismatched pair that we were rooting for fall apart.

(But before that drama, anyone remember this?




First off, the FF are called on to assist the Royal Inhumans with an issue.
Not of science and virtue, but of politics and love.

And while the Fantastic Four are called before the Royal Court and the different tribes of Inhumans, one of the greatest facts of the Marvel Universe is re-iterated.


Wow, Pete, I think you are louder than Black Bolt. Galactus must've heard you.
She, course, is referring to that scan on Peter's night out with Johnny.

Then comes the hard ache. It seems peace between the Kree and the Inhuman has come, as Black Bolt and the new Supreme Intelligence (created during the War of Four Cities) negotite... but peaces comes at a price.



*psst* Sue... Crystal is a mom, too. And see where that got her with Pietro.

And then this happened.


Got to admit, the set up was poor, and the reasoning an all parts faulty, but the moment was no less painful.

And this is one reason why I don't like Hickman's writing anymore. He treats his characters like toys... and when he's done playing with them, he breaks them so that nobody else can use them.

Sue why is your hair exactly similar proportion-wise to Crystal?

Seriously, why are Crystal and Sue talking as if Crystal's never had a kid before?

Did they just completely forget Luna exists? Where did she go when the Inhumans left Hala anyway? Stay with her mom or leave with her family?

I think Hickman completely forgot about Luna. She hasn't been shown in any previous issues either.

There are some parts of the Marvel U that I know very little about, but even I knew that Crystal and Pietro have a child together. It's difficult to read that scene and not suspect that Hickman either forget or never knew.

You'd feel like a writer would at least skim a character's page on the Marvel.wikia when they started writing them.

At least this time someone remembered Medusa had a child. But this time round Crystal being a mother is forgotten

On a vaguely unrelated note, Luna and the Inhumans would be an awesome name for a band.

What's going on here though? Is Crystal being executed or married off or what? And what's up with Ronan? I'm not really familiar with the Inhumans.

When did Crystal come around to Ronan? Last I saw him he was bringing her some flowers and determined to be the man she could love, when he overheard her saying that their marriage was a political sham marriage and would never be anything more. Poor bastard looked so damn heart broke.

She came around a little bit in War of Kings. But it was mostly in the Inhuman part of Reign of Kings. When the Inhumans left the Kree, they gave her the option to stay or leave. And she chose to stay with Ronan.

I'm confused. Are they implying that Crystal is pregnant? And I totally dig this art. Occasionally the faces are little wonky, but it fits well for FF.

Also I don't understand why Black Bolt and the Supreme Intelligence decide to break the couple up. Ronan and Crystal were trying to stay out of the fighting. I just don't see what it accomplishes.

I think they're trying to stop a pregnancy before it can happen. The Star Lord mini in Annihilation also made some allusions to the Kree valuing their 'racial purity'.

They traditionally have been, although I think for some time the Supreme Intelligence, concerned about them stagnating genetically, has been trying to move them away from that.

You've got to remember that this isn't the same supreme intelligence. Also its made of two Reeds, logic and morals are bound to be skewed.

Damn, Crystal and her lovers have a bad habit of being pulled apart in dramatic poses.

This seems immensely out of character for Sue. I can't see her ever putting duty over love like this, at least not so blatantly. I can see Reed doing it, I could even see Johnny do it, and barely see Ben do it, but Sue would not.

Well if Crystal doesn't agree to it (I think) the Inhumans and Kree will continue attacking each other until one of them is completely destroyed. So I could see Sue's reasoning.

I agree.

I could see Sue try to get both Ronan and Crystal to renounce their positions and be with one another, and she help them.

Especially now that she is a Monarch of her own (steward of the Fish Atlantians until the crown regent is of age).

I think it's in character with the way Hickman's been writing FF, at least.

He's been writing Reed as the guy with the big heart who wants to go out there and solve everything, while Sue has had to grow into the head of the family in charge of several children and other beings, while also keeping Reed in line. I think it makes sense that she would see her responsibility as being a very important thing to uphold.

Also, it's foreshadowed in a very nice little scene earlier in this issue, where Reed is stargazing and suggests that they be a little late for husband and wife time, but Sue is the one calling Reed to meet with Black Bolt and playfully smirks at his request.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO. I am so incredibly ticked right now. I loved Crystal and Ronan. They were so cute together. :( I swear, someone better fix this later on, cause this is a bunch of crap. And I'm sorry, but is Sue going on about how duty is more important than your loved ones/family? Because she is like the last person I can imagine saying something like that. I haven't been picking up Hickman's run, just kind of flipping through it at the store, and I gotta say that I have been massively unimpressed with the stuff he's been doing with the Inhumans. First he turns Black Bolt into a polygamist, and now this. *sigh*

The Inhuman queens of the Centaurians, the Badoon, the Kymellians, and the Dire Wraiths.

The specific "getting it on" extent has yet to be revealed. Medusa calls them 'sisters'.

So... yeah, the Terran Inhumans are now metahuman interracial/interspecies space-Mormons?

Crystal's weird-ass hair color-band is one of my favorite, all-time favorite, character design bits.
