Paul Cornell mentioned of twitter that something from the issue could be getting coverage, though if it's this page I'm not entire sure what it is. Is Ystin saying they're a transman? Are they saying they're bisexual? Or are they saying that she's got a Tierias thing going on, and is literally flipping back and forth between the genders/physically stuck between the two?

Or maybe it's just Ex and Ystin hooking up, which out of the pairings is both surprisingly sweet and has actual chance of surviving, what with Ystin being literally immortal and Exoristos possibly being the same, if she's of the same stock as the original preboot Amazons.

I took it to mean she's a hermaphrodite.

Ditto, I've been presuming that she was born female, pretended to be male to become a Knight, and drinking from the Holy Grail had some very unusual side effects.

I see Newsarama is suggesting that the intent that Ystin is intersex but it's not entirely clear.

Though Rebis was there first, I'd have said.

I took it to mean intersex myself....which I think is awesome if that's what it is :)

Granted, I have only read the first couple of issues of Demon Knights, everything else I have seen of it has been on here so I may be completely wrong...

I would count Ystin before Rebis only because Rebis was an artificial and very comic-book creation.

If Ystin is being presented as a naturally intersex person, not someone who gained that identity through magic/science/some kind of other wacky contrivance, that is a huge step forward I think...

What I find intriguing is what this means for the Questing Queen, who's been alluded to be a later version of Ystin.

Which is odd because she's tried to kill her at least once, I thought that she was a past version of Enchantress?

I didn't say that the Queen was AWARE of this fact. It's mostly based on the fact that she and Ystin share the Merlin grail dream.

Haven't read the issue yet, but I had to look.

I...am liking this development. If for no other reason, because they're apparently going to stop teasing us as to Ystin's gender identity. (Definitely gender identity, not sexuality.)

Also dreading it, because no matter what he's intending to do with it, I fear another 'Sean Erin' - well intentioned, but ill-thought and unintentionally insulting. I trust Cornell, but I also dread...

A thought came to me while I was reading the issue.

If they do intend that Ystin means that zie is, in fact, physically both male and female (and not switching between them)...I wonder how they're going to clarify that fact in future...

Intersex or Bigender (or both!) would be AWESOME. Transman would be...okay, but in that case Ystin thinking of xyrself as part woman is kind of problematic. Not that transmen can't or don't even feel that way, it's just a bad sign for the author's understanding of the issue.

I'm hoping for bigender, just because being represented would be nice, but I'm not expecting it. Totally assuming intersex (probably with a full working set of genitals and gonads for both sexes, 'cuz hey, fiction) right now.

(Also, LOL at the number of different ways we've chosen to give hir a non-gendered pronoun...)
