This time released by Dreamworks--more Pitch Black, by Johane Matte, Perry Maple and WoonYoung Jung.
Johane Matte, by the way, is Rufftoon, who is STILL drawing ROTG comics on Tumblr even now.

"NICHOLAS ST. NORTH!" (aka Santa Claus)
He (enthusiastically) asks Pitch to ally himself with him.
"What makes you think I would be interested in alliances?"
North explains that they all became Guardians--he, Tooth and Sandy--to keep children safe. He also explains that the Man in the Moon gave them those roles, chose them to become Guardians.

1) Pitch's outfit bears a startling resemblance to movie!Loki and
2) I love this story. The movie, and all its extensions, and the book it sprung from, I badly want to read.
So many artists have gotten into this movie. Like, for example, the captivating Phobs:

Who is creating a 14-page comic based on Pitch's backstory.
Basically, he had a daughter. A daughter who eventually became Mother Nature, after she lost him to the Fearlings, which made him what he is now.
The stories behind each Guardian are amazing, guys, honestly.

And, before I cap this all off, here's what I did in the span of 30 minutes after watching the movie:

I want to clarify that Soft pastels are an incredibly difficult medium to control, seeing as they're like chalk, but smudgier and harder to erase.
Plus I borked up his hand and the arm length, but I like how this turned out anyway :)
Also, can we have a Rise of the Guardians tag? :)) I may make more posts after this one.

Date: 2012-11-30 04:40 pm (UTC)But as it is, total agreement when it comes to soft/oil pastels, so very good job and kudos to you, honestly. They certainly aren't the friendliest medium to be working with at all.

Date: 2012-11-30 11:16 pm (UTC)I love them, though. They're messy, difficult, but for some reason, using them is often a treat for me.

Date: 2012-11-30 05:12 pm (UTC)How do these people *become* these concepts? Like Mother Nature, Jack Frost, etc.
Boo for the Tooth Fairy being somewhat 'whitenised', she's based on the Kinnara of Buddhist and hindu mythology, but seems like the movie has kept the ties and given her a race lift to white.
So now the entire cast is essentially White people. Hmm :/

Date: 2012-12-01 11:00 am (UTC)But not enough for me not to really, really want to watch it.
It just sounds like a really enjoyable concept, I must get the art book aswell.

Not worse, not better, just different. And I love the sheen that comes off her "hummingbird" feathery flesh, such a treat for the eyes.

Date: 2012-11-30 06:01 pm (UTC)Seriously, they could've shaved down any of the relatively pointless action scenes and put cool stuff like this in! There is so much cool stuff about this franchise that should've been in the movie!
And, again, Pitch totally has a point about the whole "fear being necessary" thing.

Date: 2012-11-30 07:19 pm (UTC)I feel like it'd be hard for the actual movie to live up to what the fans have done with it when I actually see it.

Date: 2012-11-30 08:52 pm (UTC)Bonus: I read the latest Dresden Files novel and couldn't stop hearing one of the character's in Baldwin-Santa's voice. Highly recommended. (:

Date: 2012-12-01 01:03 am (UTC)Now the person who drew it is an artist on Tumblr who I can assume was commissioned by Dreamworks to do this particular piece, but Rufftoon also does fancomics.
BASICALLY it's a fancomic artist who got to do an official work for Dreamworks, which is the one you see above.
The people who worked on ROTG said they wanted to expand the universe, so they're doing it via comics.

Date: 2012-12-01 09:18 am (UTC)Anyways, Joyce took active part in the movie.
---from Wiki---
Although the film is based on the Joyce's book series, it contains differences from the books. The book series, begun in 2011, explains the origins of the characters, while the film takes place about 200 years after the books, and shows how the characters function in present time. Joyce explained, "Because I don't want people to read the book and then go see the movie and go, 'Oh, I like the book better', and I also didn't want them to know what happens in the movie. And I also knew that during the progress of film production, a lot of things can change. So I wanted to have a sort of distance, so we were able to invoke the books and use them to help us figure out the world of the movie, but I didn't want them to be openly competitive to each other.

Date: 2012-12-01 08:22 pm (UTC)I kinda figured that in the very beginning, Pitch wasn't a 'villain'. A little fear is healthy for kids/people; it's what keeps kids from running into busy streets or wandering into somewhere they shouldn't be. It's when fear winds up taking over your day-to-day life that it gets dangerous...
And hey, Rufftoon comics. Instant gold star there, her work is always brilliant. *takes notes of Tooth's feather gradation for cosplay plans*

Date: 2012-12-02 12:41 am (UTC)I mean I can admit the criticisms are correct, the movie could have been better, but when it comes right down to it, the movie made me feel completely and utterly overjoyed and it was fantastic in that.

Date: 2012-12-02 01:16 am (UTC)Really, all I needed was for the movie to make me laugh (which it did, ALOT), get teary-eyed, and feel like a kid again. It accomplished all of this, so I was satisfied.
As an added bonus, I unexpectedly fell in love with Baby Tooth OMG I WANT ONE FOR CHRISTMAS. *_*

Date: 2012-12-02 02:15 am (UTC)And honestly it was meaningful, more than anything I've seen in movies in a long time.
Where?
Date: 2012-12-14 10:12 pm (UTC)And second: Where do you find those comics?! I searched on the web during a week I couldn't find more than a mention here and there... This website is the only one I found with actual pages on it! Is there any website that sell those? Or where you can read them?
And thanks again anyway ^^
