I figured it was time to make my first post and what better topic to post on than the latest comic to catch my attention: MacGyver

Mac is, and always shall be, close to my heart thanks to the sexilicious badassary of Richard Dean Anderson.
I'm only going to give a bare bones summery,in part to save myself some work and in part to allow you the joy of experiencing the story on your own.
The first issue starts in a very familiar way. An old friend contacts MacGyver, asking for help with one thing or another, one thing leads to another and things get "complicated". The comic feels a lot like an episode of the TV show--even and especially the narration.

And right down to Mac's patented MacGyverisms

This woman is Kari Kurikov Alias Ireyna Voleskya, an Interpol agent whose gone AWOL to investigate the murder of a mutual friend of her and MacGyver. Our first impression of her...isn't that great.

That is just not cool. Not cool at all. Thank goodness no one falls for it. In spite of this, the two go on the run together track down the killer and, in the second issue, we get to see just how AWESOME Kurikov actually is.

The story picks up in Cairo where we learn that Kari just doesn't take no for an answer.

That scene is juxtaposed against Mac's more peaceful information hunt. The intent, obviously, is to show how much more effective his methods are. Still, I can't help but cheer when I watch her pummel these thugs in the bar.
They run down some leads and then run into the bad guy and Mac chases the guy down. The villain runs off on a motorcycle and a bike chase ensues, except...

That's right. I don't know what's more awesome: the ensuing chase or the fact that Mac is written as a man comfortable enough with his masculinity that he's willing to ride on the back.
Another action hero might insist on taking the wheel. He might say something sexist or pull the "main character card". Instead we get this:

Two awesome partners working together. This isn't a scene where he's somehow shown as wimpy for sitting behind Kari. It's not played for laughs or used to deride either of them. Mac trusts her to know what she's good at and he goes on to do what he's best at: Flipping cars.

In addition to the story, each issue ends with a brief essay by Zlotoff co-writer of the comic and the creator of the show, discussing Macgyver's genesis. This is a fun read, as well, though the essays feel very short.
Overall this comic is very wonderful. If you're a fan of the series, then this will be an epic run full of nostalgia, true-to-series writing and pretty good art. Every inch of this feels like an episode of the series, warts and all, and I'm proud to have it in my collection
If you aren't a fan of MacGyver or just plain aren't familiar with him, then this is still a fun ride full of action, adventure, and motorcycle chases and I recommend it either way.
I hope you enjoyed my first post and I apologize for the low quality of my scans.
