How The Spot got his spots

The story starts when the Kingpin is trying to duplicate the powers of Dagger (from Cloack & Dagger) in order to save his wife's life (complicated stuff to explain). He gets a group of scientists working on it, and one of them, Dr. Jonathon Ohnn, ends up studying Cloack's powers instead and discovers a dark dimension:
Like every scientist in comics, Dr. Ohnn follows the time-honoured tradition of not caring about security measures and just plunges into the big unknown. Hey, it worked with the Fantastic Four!
The results are a bit weirder, though:

I should add I absolutely love Herb Trimpe's design and I don't think The Spot was ever better drawn than this.
