An "Accentuate the Positive" post: Priest Jason

Hey, a good idea is a good idea. I've talked a lot of smack about the DCnU (except for the Ray mini, which was amazing) and Flashpoint in general, so here's a page from Flashpoint which I think had a lot of potential.




Honestly, I think this could be a cool idea for an Elseworld. Working as a priest in the bad parts of Gotham could make for some really cool stories.

The idea of a Gotham City priest reminds me of that one old nun that used to pop up to give advice during the early parts of Tim's run as Robin.

I think that it was in Streets of Gotham they had a priest who, shortly after arriving in Gotham got mugged, and after he recovered from that he had to deal with an outbreak of plague, an earthquake and No Man's Land in quick succession.

Admittedly the experience seemed to drain his enthusiasm somewhat (it was his first posting) but it made him all the more determined to stay because he believed it meant that the people of Gotham need all the help they can get.

Even when the new Black Mask sent a guy in an invisiblity suit to whisper at him in an attempt to get him to shoot people, the priest had enough experience with weird stuff in the city to wait until someone else showed up to confirm the voices were real before working to find the source.

Flashpoint was pretty terrible overall, but there were definitely a few cool characters and concepts that I would have loved to see more of. It's kind of weird that this Jason also died and came back from the dead though, it takes me out of the story just a little bit.

I remember that Gail Simone's post-One Year Later plan for Cass Cain was to have her find Catholicism and become the "Angel of the Bat". So while this is a good idea, it may have been cribbed.

I think a troubled character finding religion is a broad enough concept that this probably wasn't influenced by that.

There was a priest who had a similiar outlook on life in that one issue of Streets of Gotham where Huntress was stalking Man-Bat. Very cool dude, one I'd have liked to see more of.

I like the character,but I would still really enjoy reading about a Catholic Priest that actually sounded like a catholic...

Do we know he's a *Catholic* priest specifically, though? I mean gosh, have to read the actual issue, but just from those panels, it isn't entirely determining it has to be Catholic Church, even though of course, most commonly 'the Church' implies simply that.

Plus, there are variations within the Church, I still don't know how in character for Jason would any different presentation be. He's still, uh, Jason, priesthood non withstanding. >_>
