This will propably end with Spock managing to get away with this, like taking down Smythe takes down the others, or the hostages are killed but Spock not getting the blame for it.
Well, there is the very distinct impression made there that Spock recorded Jameson ordering an execution.
So if Jameson dies, Spider-Ock plays the recording as a justification.
But I think the more interesting thing would be that Spider-Ock starts blackmailing Jameson for a kill license, broad powers, city funding and resources.
In the real world, I imagine it is rather murky whether mayors have the authority to sandction lethal force. On one hand, they are the authority behind police departments who can use lethal force. On the other hand, Spidey is no cop.
I'm all for this if it means lots of scenes where Jameson starts handing absolute control of the city over to Spider-man, maybe giving him an unlimited license to kill that gets the Feds anxious... and the net result is Jameson being ruined personally and politically by it in time for Peter to come back and take the heat for Ock's actions.
You have to keep that in mind, always, here. "How is this going to screw up Peter's life when he gets back?"
Does this story cover anything on *why* the Scorpion hates Jameson so much? It has become "one of those things" over the years, but Max Gargan hating Jameson seems so vague, as there doesn't seem to be much that says Gargan hates being the Scorpion or anything like that.
Continuity geek he is, Dan Slott would probably have a line or two on "Here's why Max Gargan hates J. Jonah Jameson so much." Maybe next issue?
It was Jonah who initially hired him way back when and made him into the Scorpion but at this point it's clear that he was able to get out of the suit (when he was Venom) so yeah, I don't get why he would still want revenge.
Maybe I'm wrong as I can't find anything about it. I remember in the cartoon though that when he was out in public he'd wear a trenchcoat and hat over his costume.
For a long time, Gargan claimed the suit couldn't come off...but whether that was retconned or just a result of the side-effects, it eventually proved to not be true. The process that turned him into the Scorpion made him mentally unstable and the longer he was exposed, the more unstable he became.
At some point he may have stabilized, but his hatred of Jameson being unreasoning is pretty much canon at this point.
Ya know, these Superior issues are making really hate a certain character.... Not SpOck, since I've come to terms with the fact that this is merely the story of a villain pretending to be a hero. But Jameson, good lord, when did he become so bloodthirsty? I meanI remember reading back that he was jealous of Peter because of all the good he did, and thats why he hated him. But now he loves him because SpOck is a friggen psycho? weak..... and judging from the previews of the issues to come, we'll have to wait for the green goblin to fuck up SpOck's shit
Since his wife was killed. And he's not so much bloodthirsty as he wants closure for the death of his wife, and thinks that the death of the man who did it will at least be a step in the right direction.
