Back in the day, Batman teamed up with everyone. Yes, everyone.

Admittedly, Batman fights vampires a lot. (A fact he mentions in this story.) Seven pages of 23, plus a treat.

We open with Andrew Bennett looking up at the night sky and angsting. He's in Gotham because of a recent spate of supposed "vampire killings."

Andrew shifts to wolf shape to stake out the park. He soon spots a pair of young lovers being followed by a sinister looking old man in black hat and coat.

Andrew uses his superior experience to trick the woman into shooting her partner with silver bullets, then uses the boy's weapon to stake her. He finds a clue, a matchbook for Club Dracula.

Meanwhile, in the legitimate businessman side of town, a man named Hodges asks Doctor Weems if a hospital would help. Unfortunately, the doctor reports that the patient is so weak that moving her would be fatal We focus in on her neck, where there are bite marks. Batman arrives, and disarms Lester, Hodges' bodyguard--only Hodges' intervention keeps that from being literal.

Hodges admits that he normally is Batman's enemy, but now he may be the only one who can save Hodges' daughter.

At the morgue, Commissioner Gordon (who has just come out of one of his retirements) consults Batman about the supposed vampire killings. Batman spots something in the autopsy photos that won't immediately crack the main case, but does provide a clue. He pulls a stealth disappearance on Gordon, who muses that it's good to be back.

Andrew approaches Club Dracula, and he mentions how much he hates the whole Dracula franchise for making vampirism look cool.

Andrew apologizes curtly to the LARPer, whose full name is Mark Tanner, but refuses the offer of a drink. He is, after all, on duty and there are real vampires among the crowd. Mark turns out to be a Steve Martin fan.

Outside, a lookout spots Batman swinging in and assuming a disguise. He alerts the Gunnarson gang. Batman notes that Hodges' daughter is alive because the person who bit her wasn't one of the vampire killers--the marks on her neck are too symmetrical, indicating fake fangs, and this is the largest venue for fake fang-wearing people.

Bennett and Batman are simultaneously "made" by their enemies, and brawls break out. Some fancy maneuvering later, Mark Tanner's mouthpiece has been knocked out again, and the two heroes have switched attacking groups. Regular bullets have no effect on Andrew, and Batman's been up against vampires before.

Outside, Batman spots a thug named Shaky, who Hodges had sent to spy on Batman. He delivers Mark's false fangs--turns out the young man is the unwitting carrier of a blood virus which he infected the girl with while biting her in play. Batman has also figured out the nurse was a spy.

The next step is confronting Gunnarson--his thugs were too johnny-on-the-spot, so the gangster may have something to do with the vampires. Andrew notes how lonely and tragic Batman seems. The villains get a panel of establishing hey're lovers.

Nope. Turns out that silver bullets do not invariably kill vampires, although they do aggravated damage. Dr. Ames was able to dig them out, and Batman donated blood to revive Andrew. Hodges showed his good faith by keeping both the heroes alive. As for Hodges' daughter, she is on the road to recovery, convincing Hodges that permanent retirement is best.

Andrew Bennett resumes his hunt for the Blood-Red Moon, and Batman must convince Comissioner Gordon to stake all the vampire victims. The mantle of the night does not seem so heavy when you have an ally.

And now, a paid announcement.

Indeed, Riddler and Joker would be fighting over who got to gimmick it first since it's both a puzzle AND a toy...

But then, you have to wonder about ANY shop in Gotham which still stocks toys, puzzles or practical jokes!
