Well, I have fallen in love with my teenage crush, and after she died married someone who looked exactly like her, only to find out that my teenage crush was still alive because I'd really fallen in love with the embodiment of a cosmic force that only looked like my teenage crush, and left my wife for her, but my wife was only a clone of my teenage crush anyway. (And ended up leaving her for another psychic who used to be pretty evil, but we all make mistakes.) Man, I hate when that happens.

He had three brains or something like that- but don't ask me for more detail there, because I kind of just accepted it on faith- and then he died, and then he was cloned and had his consciousness transferred, but the cloning machine decided that he actually was three different people.

Its a novel way to start a poly relationship.

"willingly gives up her capability to feel sorrow and regret as part of a bargain to save Fantomex" from what I've seen of her recently she is exhibiting regret and thus not lacking her full emotional capacity.

That decision almost makes up for them flip-flopping on what body she's currently in.

I haven't read all the books in question, but wasn't there something weird recently that showed a teenaged Elizabeth Braddock in New York in what looked an awful lot like Kwannon's body?

There was a flashback scene IIRC showing Betsy in New York asa young woman, but the art seemed to be iffy enough that what body she was in was unclear.

That always seemed like a weird deal--I mean, she obviously felt regret that she was instrumental in making an alternate future world a fascist police state during Final Execution...

Either Humphries is going to play around with her assumptions with that deal, or he's just rolling with his own take on things.

Is she really his feminine side? Or is she simply all of the qualities Betty liked in the original Fantomex, and the gender happens to be incidental?

I'm not really comfortable with the idea of "feminine" meaning "not a jerk" here.

well, i don't see male fantomex as a jerk here though. i see more as the emodiment of his implulses and urges. it's his "i'm a thief, you're a thief let's thieve together, Paris is our oister!"

where as Fantomexx is the caring and thoughtful side. in all honesty yeah, the gender is probably incidental, but that would seem like giving the writers too much credit.

I didn't get the vibe she was in love with this male Fantomex, she was in love with the previous Fantomex, but is finding the relationship with this one not as she expected.

Then she finds out all the bits of the original Fantomex she was in love with are in... Fantomess? Fantomette? Fantomelle? Fantomex-x?

Betsy has never struck me as much of a thief to be honest, so I suspect that yes, she was just going along with it to be with him.
