Pandora told us that last issue that only someone truly pure or dark of heart could lift her curse, the presence of the Seven Deadly Sins in the world. She'd assumed Superman would be her best bet as a truly good person, but that option fail. So she tries Option 2 a fellow immortal vandal savage who in her opinion is the darkest of the dark of evil and could possibly be the person to open the box.

Date: 2013-08-02 04:06 am (UTC)If the purest of hearts Superman couldn't open Pandora box because he have a little bit of evil in him.
Then we find out that vandal savage couldn't open Pandora box because he have a little bit of good in him.
Does that mean only a neutral person of good and evil can open Pandora box?
It would make sense why this person in the trinity war preview page being able to hold Pandora box.

Date: 2013-08-02 05:44 am (UTC)I do like the idea of true neutral opening the box though, in which case I feel like it would have to be done by a civilian, someone from outside the spandex set. It'd be great to see the in-fighting, self involved supers get the wind taken out of their sails when the solution isn't all about them.

Date: 2013-08-02 04:47 pm (UTC)So with the Joker out, the question still stands. Which DC character has nothing in them except pure, all-encompassing darkness?
I'm actually more interested to find the answer to that than the other two questions in the betting pool.

With our luck, though, it'll probably be Obsidian....

Stargirl (it is Johns after all...)?
A blue Lantern?
Buddy Baker's daughter?
Pure Evil?
I'd have to say Anton Arcane, even over Joker.

Date: 2013-08-02 06:42 pm (UTC)And my guess is that someone with the purest or darkest heart would be someone whose morality isn't inverted in the Crime Syndicate's universe.
The fact that Ultraman exists means Superman isn't wholly pure.
Someone wholly pure could not be evil in any universe. Someone wholly evil would be evil in any universe.

Date: 2013-08-02 06:49 pm (UTC)None of the villains in Forever Evil can be wholly evil because they all, even Darkseid, made a choice.
Whereas Dick may surprise them all if it turns out he's always had lingering bad reasons to do good. A distinction between being evil and doing evil.
The most evil person could be a hero who never does harm to anyone. The most good person could be a serial killer or a monster. Like the Joker.
He snapped because his expectations for the world didn't match up with how life actually works and he's intent on showing everyone else the arbitrary gap between what is and what ought to be.
He could be the purest heart in the world for that reason.

Date: 2013-08-03 02:57 am (UTC)Likewise that the standard Joker could be the purest heart on the planet because all his evil and insanity is actually fueled by failed idealism.

Date: 2013-08-04 01:44 pm (UTC)When they did the fairly dire "religious judgement comes to Gotham City" story during the Dick!Bat period they even had to retcon in something into his pre-Robin days (arranging for a never-before-heard-of rival during hsi circus days to be beaten up) for Dick to feel guilty about so he couldn't be judged "pure". That was a cack-handed mess of a story, and using him as an example of the most evil person around would be even moreso.
IMHO of course.
