We've all seen this cover before, but Guillem March considered other possibilities to illustrate the superhuman romance between two of DC's biggest icons.
They really should've just gone with the second option, which would've looked pretty nice. Or just the variant of 3 that doesn't include Superman himself shoehorned in, since the cape is enough to imply his presence in itself and then, you know, we wouldn't have had those issues with whatever the fuck is going on with Diana's leg in the finished image.
Well, he's a big guy, he would stretch out her costume to the point a ruin.
But yeah, something with the lasso would be nice. Even if they didn't want to go the beefcake route, she could have lassoed him up to pull him in for a kiss or something.
For a comic that's supposed to be about their relationship, the romance and general interaction between the characters seemed pretty limited from the issues I've read.
So the only way to convey this romance is ... having one of the greatest superheroines wear the symbol of a male superhero. OY.
If they're so desperate to have this pairing work, why not do something FUN with it? Have the two of them snuggling in bed giggling? Have them in their civilian clothes in a coffee shop? Have them both working at the Kent farm? Have them gaze at the stars atop Mount Everest?
You have two incredibly powerful people to work with here, DC, do something neat with it!
I mostly lurk but I came out of hiding I comment on this. This whole relationship makes me want to hit things and I don't know why. It just seems so cheesy. And it's over the top in a not-funny way. I find number 1 to be particularly infuriating for some reason.
I'm skeeved out by the impression I keep getting that they stuck Diana with Clark simply because he's one of the few men stronger than her. So they can force her into the typical romantic interest role.
It wouldn't bother me as much if we were shown these two having an interesting relationship but so far it is just generic love interest crap which is a disservice to both characters.
You're not alone. The first one in particular really gets me too, and now that I've thought about it I could probably write an essay on why it bothers me. But I think the main thing is this: she's wearing a Superman (sleep?)shirt over her uniform. Mind you, she still HAS her uniform on, but it's been reduced to a "panty shot" underneath the Superman shirt. So the symbol of Wonder Woman's power and sense of justice has been almost completely covered by a generic tee plastered with Superman's symbol, and her uniform has been even more sexualized, reduced to lingerie that we "catch a peek" at.
So there it is, the sum total of all my problems with this relationship, as it's been cast, all within one (gross) image.
Thank you both for articulating why this whole situation bothers me so much. Now I can tell my local comic book dealer why this enrages me so much instead of just growling unintelligibly whenever I see a picture of the two of them together. She thinks the whole thing is so mindlessly stupid that it circles around to being morbidly hilarious. Like a offensive Möbius strip.
this couple is a big joke lol for sure they wouldn't lost the chance to make WW use the superman symbol to objectify her. this sucks the female always using the male symbol.
