Superior Spider-Man #24

 Bonded with the symbiote, Otto decides to prove that he is in full control of it and patrols the city as the Superior Venom. He gets a call from Maria, who is crying, and goes to see her.









Mary Jane calls the Avengers and tells them Spider-Man is possessed by the symbiote. They prepare to take him to out.

Well this is fairly predictable everyone will blame Peter's outbursts on the symbiote so they can continue holding the idiot ball about the fact that's not Peter.

yeah i agree with Obsidian. people are going to blame his changes on the symbiote.

even those closest to him. MJ, Black Cat, Carlie, Aunt May. all will blame the symbiote. ugh....

It's no different than all the times Superman tricked people into thinking he wasn't Clark with shapeshifters, robots, etc. It's a perfectly reasonable way to excuse the character changes because it's comics.

Except those where to fool people who didn't spend a great deal of time in close contact with him and not notice that there's something really freaking wrong with him.

If Lex Luthor killed Clark and stole his body it would be bad writing if folks like Lois (pre nu52) Bruce, Diana and company didn't catch on that something was amiss with their big blue boy scout. Even if Lex was trying to prove he was a superior Superman.

That's not even getting into the sheer WTFery of writer fiats such as Slotto having time to think up a reason for Rachel not to scan him while freaking out about being exposed and her not exposing him. Even if she didn't scan him immediately she should have picked up the big freaking neon sign of pure panic on his part and looked or at least mentioned it.

I almost forgot about that particular fancomic, given there have been so many after from that creator I truly adore.

It's still better written than the original scene.

As for the scans and writing on the actual S(I)SM comic? Meh.

Well, aside from costuming (which the symbiote covers anyway), how is anyone else to know that the symbiote is a recent development?

Because Flash Thompson knows it's a recent development and unless Slotto locks him up or kills him he'll probably tell everyone.

There are also probably witnesses of his fight with Agent Venom earlier. And while I have no doubt Otto would lock up or kill Flash to cover his tracks I doubt Slott would have that happen since he really seems to be trying to sell Otto as a heroic character.

Good points on the heroic character part. Where did the fight with Venom take place, though? Reason I'm asking is, who would actually tell MJ or May or most of the people who are wondering?

I'm assuming the Avengers would do their job and investigate (Yeah fat chance in this book) after all if a member who'd been all over the base was under the command of an alien you'd think they'd look into it.

When did the writing get this bad? It's so over explanatory, especially in that scene with Maria. I get she's upset and panicking, but the art is expressional enough, it shouldn't be this bad.

I'd say it's a symptom of dragging this whole mess out too long. Ock stealing Spidey's body should have been a six to twelve issue mini series at most and not dragged out to more than 24 issues so far (Not to mention all the other places Slotto shows up)

I can't be the only one who thinks Spock's clothing is a strange callback to Spider-Man 3, can I?

I was afraid that the symbiote would somehow not realize/care that Ock's in Pete's brain even though it's pretty much obsessively in love with the guy.
Somehow, this is an even worse situation than I could have ever foreseen.
At least it's logical enough as an excuse for once.

This reminds me of those soap operas where a lookalike would take the place of another character. Logically, this plot shouldn't have lasted long because there were always clues that should have tipped off the impersonated character's loved ones that this wasn't the genuine article (additionally, this sort of thing happened frequently enough in these fictional towns that "imposter lookalike" should be their first guess when a character behaves oddly). But the only way to keep the plot going for months and months are frequent plot contrivances and for characters to be dumber than usual. That's basically the plot of SSM.

On the bright side, this means that when Pete actually returns everyone won't hate him. Except Jameson, who will never stop hating Spidey.

Can this book, you know, fucking die already? I get its a top seller, but its dragged on so much and now I can't even get why people are reading it beyond bile fascination.

Its simply a crime that Young Avengers is ending while this gets to go on.
