As some of you may have noticed, scans_daily celebrated it's 10th anniversary last month. Yup, our first iteration came into being in December 2003 and have been going strong ever since.
Take a moment to raise a celebratory glass if such be your preference...

(Look, I'm the one making the post, you must have known the odds were good Dick Grayson would feature in it somewhere.)
The Community has been through a good deal since those early days and three different site hosts in total (at least three that I know of, but I didn't show up until 2007 or so), but have, we hope, remained true to our original desire to, like it says on the heading, "provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free." as well as showcasing some kickass comics and graphic narrative from all sorts of unexpected places and times.
Your lovable Mods (Well, the lovable ones and me) felt that December already had a lot going on in it (both personally and socially) so it would be better to celebrate it in January, where we can have both a celebration of the past and a whole New Year to look forward to. (Look, it's either this story, or "We forgot", you decide which you think makes us seem cooler)
According to wikipedia, the Tenth Anniversary is "Tin" or "Aluminium" (or "Aluminum" to Americans) neither of which are the most exciting elements. Since we couldn't really work a theme out of those, the notion we had for celebrating this event is a variation on our requests threads, a sort of "Greatest Hits of thePast FIRST 10 years".
Scans_daily is the sum total of everyone who is a member of the board, be they poster, commentator or those who simply choose to lurk and enjoy (Though we always welcome those who choose to de-lurk). So let's make this a group celebration!
Do you have a favourite post that you made? Well, make it again, chances are there are new members who've never see it before.
Do you have a request for a story that you recall seeing before? Well then, ask here and the assembled masses might well be able to post it again.

Let's celebrate what makes this place so much fun in the first place.
We might also have a few surprises in the weeks ahead, but let's not spoil that right now.
So let the games begin!

Date: 2014-01-09 09:43 pm (UTC)Wait, only me and Gar have them? Fine by me then.
It's been only 3 years for me as a not-lurker occasional poster, but there's hardly any other community where I could've found such a mix of clever commentary, differing opinions with a minimum of decorum in discussing them, an ethos that made me both feel like there was something different in here and that I also had much to learn, and a surprising high ratio of beefcake/cheesecake. Specially of the bound robin variety.
Here's to ten more!?

Date: 2014-01-09 11:26 pm (UTC)I knew I had found my spiritual home on scans_daily when I (slightly nervously) posted one of my first bound Robin images and it got fan mail! :)
(Oh, and I hope you mean a either a "minimum of rancor" or "maximum of decorum" because "a minimum of decorum" isn't something we aspire to ;) )

Date: 2014-01-09 10:08 pm (UTC)I would love to start making regular posts. There's so much I'd like to do, but uploading scans and posting them here is not something I've gotten into the habit of. Let's hope for a change this year!

Date: 2014-01-10 04:14 am (UTC)Wow.
Y'know, I've been lurking since that December many moons ago, back when I was a freshman in college (now working on my PhD)! I think back to those who have posted and are no longer active...I think of the good ones, the bad ones, and everyone inbetween. I think of the long, drawn-out arguments between people, the bonds that were formed, and the quiet moments where beloved creators are no longer with us. I think of the rules, those added and dropped, and the dedication of the various mods. I can think of the times I laughed, the times I fumed, and the time I participated in the SD! "Boom-de-yada" parody.
Ten. Years.
I don't post often (I never have), I never made any close friends, never met anyone from this community, and maybe I never will. But I likes you guys, and I think I'd be sadder without this place. You all have introduced me to books I later bought, helped me know which ones to avoid, and provided good discussions.
That's really all I have. I'm a quiet, lurking veteran, and I'll still be just that, as long as there is a Scans_Daily.
Here's to US, guys. You, me, everyone. The site is fine, but it is the community that is still going strong.

Date: 2014-01-10 04:50 pm (UTC)Happy Anniversary, guys! I'm only a commenter because I don't have means to scan, but I check this comm every day and enjoy it.
I'm going to make a request for a story that was posted here before (or probably was on LJ): Clark and Diana are hit by Eros' arrow and miff Lois and Steve in a major way! I think their Eros-induced romance was waaay better than the current one. ;) The comic might have been DC Presents and was early '80s, I believe. Sorry I can't help more.
