 I cannot remember what book I got this from, it's been a while.  It was during the Alpha days in the Spidey books, and I thought this guy would have been perfect for Pete's sidekick!

Ok, the setup:  Pete's having a realyl bad day leading up to this.  Nothing going quite right, and he overhears a kid being bullied.  As it turns out, the kid is claiming that he knows Spider-Man.  So after he does the cool thing to spook off the bullies, he decides to sit down and have a talk with Chris.

This is super adorable except I can't help but be taken out of the story that the only place women have in his superhero fantasy is as doting sex objects. Like I don't think it would be as glaring if they appeared anywhere else at all in the images in any other context, but they literally have no purpose in the story at all but to turn him on.

That was jarring. Would have been weird enough without it being the only appearance of women. I'm having a hard time seeing Jess and Jen act that way just because, um, Spidey wanted to impress a kid?

OK, maybe if it had been Jen and Jan. That's sort of like their senses of humor.

But Jessica Drew? Webby? She's so serious!

That is kinda weird, but then again it's Jennifer and Jessica -- I could see that entire bit being their *idea*.

Spider-Man shows up with a somewhat depressed kid and he explains Chris is having a hard time, I can very easily imagine Jen and Jessica deciding on the spot and by themselves to make a bit of a fuss over him just to make his day (Especially if as with Spider-Man he gets slightly adorably tongue tied and calls them "Ma'am" out of reflexive politeness), because Jen in particular would remember what it was like being a scrawny kid,

I think it's more that it's the only place women have in his wish fulfilment story...Cap and Tony are people to look up to, Jen & Jess are only there to be sexy. Also no matter how long Jessica Drew has been Bendis-ised, I don't think I'll ever get used to it...in my head she's always the serious professional with tendencies to brood so it's weird wrapping my head around her not being that anymore..

And I still expect Jessica Drew to be the bounty hunter with venom blasts and other powers from her original solo series. This whole double/triple/quadruple(?) agent thing always seemed to be too.... JJ Abrams for me.
