"I realised a few months ago that I had one last Who tale left to tell, and this is it, my farewell to the 11th Doctor..." -- Paul Cornell
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show, IDW put out a special one-shot, written by Paul Cornell and drawn by Jimmy Broxton.
A TARDIS accident lands the Doctor in our world, where he's a fictional character.

The Doctor accompanies Ally to a Doctor Who convention...

The Doctor meets Matt Smith:

Yes, it turns out that's a real Cyberman. Trapped in the Void after the episode "Doomsday," it blew a hole to our universe. Accidentally falling through that same hole is how the TARDIS found its way here, as well.

With the aerial attached, the TARDIS is able to send the Cyberman back into the Void.

The story in its entirety is 40 pages long, so this should post should qualify as not surpassing 1/3 of the contents.

LOVED this!
Date: 2014-01-26 08:40 pm (UTC)One moment that really got me in this issue was where the girl starts talking about the one who died, out of his companions. And there's a beat before you realise that she's talking about Elizabeth Sladen's real life passing. And then quite awesomely the Doctor starts saying that no, Sarah Jane is alive and well and still happily chasing adventures in her home town. And it was kind of nice to think, that if we did live in a universe of infinite realities then yeah, there'd be one where she was still living the life of Sarah Jane. That was a lovely moment.
And yeah I did love the 11th Doctor's flabbergasted reactions to not winning the lookalike contest, as I imagine that if they had done this as an episode, (like that epically funny Supernatural one) then that would be exactly the way Matt's Doctor would react!
Issues like this are why I'm sorry that IDW is losing the license. And it did seem like they are genuinely upset about it, as the foreword to this issue sounded quite bitter about it all..

Date: 2014-01-26 10:52 pm (UTC)I really loved Prisoners of Time and the ST:TNG cross-over too. In fact that's one of the tragic things about them losing the license as they were considering doing a sequel to the Star Trek crossover. There would have been all sorts of interesting story options they could have done there. But alas, it won't happen now.
