Damn you Edison Rex! You do not create a hierarchical structure where a mook loses her friend due to transference between sections and/or possible head/mind removal.

That is not a friendly workplac environment for someone who's supposed to be saving the world!

Basic synopsis: Edison Rex is a Lex Luthor style genius supervillain. He discovers that his Superman equivalent, Valiant, is actually a ticking time bomb that could destroy the world at any moment. Valiant checks it out, discovers it's for real, and chooses suicide rather than endanger anyone.

Before he goes, though, Valiant charges Rex with keeping the world safe now that its greatest protector is gone. Rex is giving it his best shot, in a master villain kind of way.

Have they ever said if that's what Rex was honestly thinking or just the world's most elaborately crafted line of bullshit? I was never able to completely tell the difference.

Well Rex has a massive ego and a major persecution complex. He has sort of a Doctor Doom origin where blames Valiant for his initial ship crashing, and has spent the rest of his time trying to prove Valiant is a menace and trying to destroy him, alienating the people around him (Including his idol Gladstone, who took Valiant's side when Rex accused him).

But in private moments we've seen Edison he seems to genuinely miss Valiant and does show some remorse for being part of his death. Heck he even seemed surprised when Valiant confirmed his findings about him being a sleeper agent for invaders.

So I do think that Edison does want to help people, but he's basically a slightly more moral version of Lex Luthor: Arrogant, disdainful of others, but unlike Lex he actually is putting his money where his mouth is trying to make the world a better place now that Valiant is out of the way.

Argh, I've been waiting for payoff of the Science Division stuff since like the second issue! I'm hoping that along with the other Cerebrella stuff that's happened in the second volume, this stuff actually comes to a head by the time the third volume comes out.

I've only read up through the second volume, but this series is really starting to add so longer story elements, and I'm really interested to see where it goes. Like of course Cerebrella's still evil, Edison forced her to work for him, she didn't actually reform, and what will happen if/when the other superheroes find out about Valiant. I mean, Rex didn't actively kill him, so could he even be arrested? Criminal negligence maybe for leaving the death booth open, maybe?
