Brief description of what happened last week: Barbara's gone postal trying to prove that her dad didn't intentionally cause the train accident, and doesn't like how Batman is trying to solve the mystery rather than taking the quicker approach of just punching everyone until they confess. Batman warns the Roman to leave town, but he ignores him. Steph's mum is apparently in on Arthur Brown's villainy. The MCU are being actively told by Forbes, the acting-commissioner, to ignore the gangwar between the Roman and the rest of Gotham's underworld and focus all of their attention on arresting Batman (even ignoring a possible connection between the crash and Professor Pyg). And Jim Gordon has been refused bail and sent to Blackgate Prison pending trial, and since they've dumped him in gen pop they fully expect him to be murdered before it actually takes place.
And now on with the comic!
We begin with a visit with Tim Drake, who is studying the kids initially abducted by Pyg back in the first issue. It seems that with Bruce's attempt to look for the big picture he's lost sight of the small things, as it appears that the kids were already coming down with something odd before Pyg captured them, leading more credence to the idea that something was at work prior to the train crash.
We then cut briefly to Harper and Cullen Rowe, the latter of whom appears to be coming down with what he thinks is a flu. Harper it appears has taken to superheroing in her spare time, despite her brother's reservations, and says that she'll be careful considering their neighbours seem concerned that something big is going down. And we get a close up of Cullen's eyes implying that the disease that he and the kids have might be biotech based or something.
Meanwhile, at the Gotham Gazette, Vicki Vale is feeling Bitter that she's working in a dying medium.

Later, Tim is in a child's room in the Rowe's slum building, where Batman catches up with him. Tim tells him that although the kid wasn't one of those kidnapped by Pyg, they seem to have come down with the same infection, which his analysis says is actually a nanobot swarm than an actual disease (explaining Cullen's eyes). He says that they don't appear to be alien in origin, but he needs to study them more to find out more. Bruce tells him to keep following this thread and tells him to be careful, and Tim says that ever since the Joker, and the deaths of Dick and Damian, Gotham seems... broken, off somehow. They part ways.
In the Narrows, Vicki and the intern are out investigating the gang war... which they decide to do by going to the skeeviest part of the slum and outright asking some goons there if Falcone is involved. Unsurprisingly, this course of action nearly gets them knifed, but the intervention of Harper prevents them from getting injured, though her calling the pair of reporters idiots may have hurt their feelings.
Meanwhile, Tim manages to activate the nanobots in the kid, only for them to form a cloud that promptly starts smashing him into things.
In the Cullen's apartment, Harper gives Vicki the lowdown on what's happening.

The muggers decide to attack the nanobots, who promptly decide that they're a new threat so it attacks them back. Vicki and the intern seems surprised to see Tim there, what with him being one of the Teen Titans and all (the intern has a poster of him on his wall). Tim activates a signal he discovered to make the nanobots go dormant, which, ask Cullen is infected too, makes Harper's brother start spewing nanobots everywhere and collapse as well.
Tim calls for an ambulance, and while he and Harper attempt to help Cullen, Vicki pinches one of Harper's tazers and uses it to threaten one of the criminals into spilling the beans on the gangwar. This promptly ends up front page news along with what little information they could scrounge about the nanobots, which seems to irritate a villain I don't recognise who is annoyed that the nanobots went off early. The supervillainy dude says to his monkey Maxwell that "Young Mr Wayne won't like this, after all, I did train him." Dun Dun dun!
Next week: Mad Ghost Story (ie the Spectre's going to be the focus)
Interesting issue, heading in a different direction than the previous more Batman and Jim focused issues. Always good to see the Rowes, though Vicki seems... more than a touch negligent there. Less Lois Lane and more like that irritating woman who botched an interview with Captain America by saying he wasn't revelant as he didn't watch NASCAR or something.
The interview at C2E2 about Batman Eternal was interesting, and hinted at what might be to come in upcoming months. Like how that dude who wrote a book on the Joker? Yeah, his life is going to before a lot less fun as the year progresses...
