...I can't anymore with DC. I just don't give a good goddamn. There's weak writing, not great art, and we begin with the shocking death of a character who has a hit TV show on the CW.
Whoop-dee-damn-doo.
Going back to my curmudgeonly ways and my rocking chair, reading Mega Man on comixology.
Right, I just meant since then. Basically it was benevolent in the 70s, absent until around Identity Crisis, and then pretty much perma-evil. IIRC, anyway.
Indeed. I vaguely recall Crisis making a reference to OMAC now being the grandfather of Kamandi.. and not having a CLUE who Kamandi OR OMAC was, aprt from remembering that haristyle in an advert or something.
There was also an excellent DC Comics Present which included Superman and OMAC
Because while it's not going to happen like this, the guy who is writing the Green Arrow title is also writing this, and if solicitations are any indication, they're going to use bits of his current run, like Emiko becoming the new Green Arrow.
So he travels from the future to the less future in order to stop the past from making the future.
Mass deaths, disfigurements, dismemberments, and disappointments to follow.
I can't even bring myself to be excited about this sort of thing anymore. Not from DC. Not from the New 52.
Honestly, DC erred when they decided to cancel 12 series total in order to churn out three weeklies. Because that's a lot of DC comics I'm not interested in. I mean sure, if the buzz is good, I can pick up the inevitable trades, but otherwise, I'll stick to the few and fewer titles that give me pleasure.
You know, these Wildstorm cameos are actually just making me angry. Wish DC would decide whether to actually invest into stories about the characters or let them go and be done with the universe. This... it's just wholly unsatisfying situation.
I know, right? They go to the trouble of incorporating the imprint into the main DC universe and yet won't give them any chance to be part of the bigger picture.
Why not make some of the Gen13 characters part of the Teen Tittans, or put some of the Stormwacth characters in any of the Justice League Whatever books.
I dunno why they think cameos-just-to-die is supposed to be something people want to see.
No, wait, scratch that, I've seen it work, but only with characters you're impressed that people remember they *exist* and are of such low status that being killed is a step up (Squadron X in Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers. G-Savior in Gundam Build Fighters).
For that matter, Squadron X was killed twice, once in the official story of their final battle with the Wreckers, and once in a flashback that showed what really happened and what Impactor had done. Their deaths were actually an important plot point, especially in regards to Ironfist, the Wreckers biggest fan.
This is just 'hey, look at these guys! Remember them? BOOM! They're dead!'
Yea, it *does* help if it's cool in how it goes down and part of the plot.
The other example I named, G-Savior in Gundam Build Fighters, was a 'hey, remember G-Saviour? Boom!' moment, but G-Saviour is such a black sheep of the franchise that the 4 fans of the series were *so happy* it was actually acknowledged to exist at all, and it was a one-on-one front and center fight. Rather a different setup than here.
Which Mr Terrific is this? The cool one who had his own solo series back when the new 52 started, or the Lex Luthory one from Earth 2?
Hm, considering the Earth 2 books seem to be giving the vibe that they might be ending soon, maybe the two universes'll be folded into one another again, maybe?
wait... so this series is about terry going back in time from a dystopian future but not far enough to prevent a dystopian almost-present so he has to somehow find a way to get to even further back in time to the Nu52 not quite dystopian present...and this is a weekly?
The characters talk about this and there's no way he can time travel back further, so he'll just have to find a way to save the eart from Brother Eye differently than assassinating his creator Mr. Terrific before he created Brother Eye.
Boy, I wish the current Green Arrow book had the amount of personality necessary to pull off a big lumberjack beard and a Robin Hood costume, the version in the ongoing is the most thinly defined main character I've ever read.
So does this take place in the future of the current DC universe, or is this set in the "present"? I know Terry travelled back in time, but I'm not sure how far he's supposed to have gone just from these pages.
So they go from "bad future #2093" that tons of folks hate to a near-future that basically eliminates all sense of tension because it:
A: Can all be changed by going back further, should that be made possible later and even if it isn't possible, then... B: It ends the stories of various characters anyway so it makes little to no difference what happens in those stories, provided this is Nu52 Earth where everything is supposed to be taking place.
Also, Oliver Queen died because one-half of Firestorm was busy screwing around. Literally. Laugh to keep from crying, I suppose.

The closest we got to integration is J'onn on a Stormwatch book and the aforementioned Fairchild.

Also, I nominate "S-something else is happening! Oh my god!" for Stupidest Last Words Expressed In Comics 2014.
