Batman Eternal 15
Jul. 16th, 2014 09:38 pm Jim Corrigan and Batwing FINALLY get to Arkham Asylum, where they notice immediate that Magpie is pretending to be a receptionist, tranq'ing her as they walk past. Inside, they find that, despite the outside of the hospital looking... as normal as Arkham ever is, the inside is just a mess, with dead guards and patients scattered about the place amongst heaps of trash and random gibberish written on the walls. This understandably doesn't make Batwing fell to confident about their situation.
Meanwhile, Tim has arrived in Japan and, after a nine hour flight, decides to let Harper know that she's there. Apparently he decided to not invite her to sit on an actual seat as he felt that her crouching in the same position trying not to make any noise for nine hour is adequate punishment for her sneaking onto his plane in in the first place.

Back in Arkham, Batwing and Corrigan continue heading deeper into the asylum. They pass by the Riddler's room, finding a riddle etched into the wall that Batwing tries to decrypt, but Corrigan says that Eddie probably wasn't the one behind this, as he's too rational to get magic to work for him. So they go to the Scarecrow's room, as he's someone who's all about irrationality... only to find blood leaking through the floor of the room and pooling on the ceiling.
Corrigan says that the blood is an example of a powerful spell known as an aetheric pylon, which they head down into the basement to find... finding Crane floating near the ceiling, having been incorporated into the spell as his blood falls constantly upwards as he mutters have legible warnings.
Batwing's suit sense's fast motion in the walls surrounding them, just as Corrigan realises who is responsible for all of this... stuff. They get dogpiled by people, patients and staff alike who have been altered by whatever spells have been cast on the hospital. Batwing calls for him to turn into the Spectre... but unfortunately it doesn't work like Jason Blood's deal with Etrigan... and they're quickly overpowered.
Elsewhere in Gotham, Jason Bard is continuing to round up the rest of the Roman's men under the guise of arresting them for being Batman's accomplices. One of the cops jumps at Batman, apparently not realising that it's him.

Huh, so that mistrust over Jason allegedly tipping off the Penguin to the Roman's location last week lasted then.
Meanwhile, in Brazil, Jason Todd and Batgirl have tracked down a plastic surgeon that may have links to the case back in Gotham... only to find Kathy Kane already inside beating the guy up. It seems that she no longer works for the DEO, but after hearing of the case's links to Blackgate inmates, the Crime Bible, stolen tech and repurposed gimmicks, she decided to have a looksee. Babs grumbles about how Kathy would only get in their/her way, but interrogates the doctor herself anyway.
Back in Arkham, the inmates select Batwing to be "saved", and he sinks through the floor despite Corrigan yelling at them to leave him alone. He falls until he finds himself in a giant cavern, where his suit immediately freaks out when it seeks Joker's Daughter coming towards him...
Up in the a basement, Corrigan is getting dragged to the person behind all this craziness...

...Who?
Overview, a lot of good creepy imagery in the Arkham segments, with some interesting set up for Harper and Tim's investigation over in Japan. Babs getting all snippy with the additional help in helping her dad seems a bit... weird, I mean, I get she's trying to prove she can do it on her own, but be willing to accept help there Babs! Dustin Nguyen's art is great, as usual.

Date: 2014-07-17 03:27 pm (UTC)He's certainly not the first ancient mystic type associated with Gotham/Arkkham. Bill Willingham gave us an evil sorceror who had slept beneath Gotham for millenia before it was built, becoming a nexus of gathering evil and suggesting it's why Gotham is just so damned weird. His old name having no meaning now, he took the name "Dr. Gotham" because he liked the sound of it.

Date: 2014-07-17 03:00 pm (UTC)Yeah Tim doesn't really seem like he is actually putting up much of a fight. i kinda like thier color scheme together, Red Robin and Blue Bird.
though in Tim's defense, i think batman was in one of his "no information/need to know" phases when he ran into Harper, so Tim doens;t know she is a capable person.
As for Bard... Batman might be working with him.... but i am not at all convinced he trusts him. at least not yet.
